Seinfeld: The New Face of Windows Vista?

…is this the new mug for Vista? Our beloved, impeccable, and extremely user-friendly Windows OS? All kidding aside, it seems like Windows is still desperate as ever to push Vista into your home or office if you haven’t been forced to take it already. After a year-and-a-half on the market, Microsoft’s Vista has still been taking a backseat to Windows XP and pirated copies of XP Pro and other XP variants. Companies like Dell have even offered to install XP into their computers for free, though at one point there was a premium to pay for choosing XP over Vista. That’s not even counting how many people have “downgraded” to XP from Vista directly. With a reception like that, what is a company to do? Hire celebrities!
As we know, Microsoft is pouring $300 million into a huge ad campaign attempting to convince us Vista isn’t terrible – and Jerry Seinfeld’s help may just be the beginning. It’s also rumored that funny-boys Will Ferrell and Chris Rock are being considered for this face lift. With that kind of financial and celebrity backing, who knows? It just might be enough for people to overlook Vista’s shortcomings. You know what they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? And if it is broke, why fix it when you can push it with smart heavy advertising and famous celebrities? Expect to see them around starting September 4.

The star of a grossly overrated comedy about nothing; he’s the perfect spokesman for Vista.
There are much more with-it stars they could have picked.
Wow…that’s your answer? They spend $300 million on advertising and that’s the reason to knock it? What world do you come from? How much did they spend on Windows 95 advertising? How much did Apple spend on ‘Mac vs. MS’ advertising? And the iPhone? You’ve got to be kidding if that’s your basis.
MS has had a hard time pushing Vista on the corporate side because of the HW demands on the machines if they migrate to Vista. Not every machine goes through the same lifecycle, so it would be a long migragration process before it does, especially if they purchased prior to the release of Vista. Secondly, drivers, compatibility issues, and software applications developed based on the XP platform slowed the rollout of Vista. And finally, while Vista may be more stable than XP, there isn’t a screaming need for corporations to push it out there. As for consumers, if you’re going to buy a cheap laptop with 1GB of RAM for $600, then you’ll eventually run into issues. You get what you pay for.
I run a MacBook Pro with zero issues. I even run bootcamp on that laptop w/Vista Ultimate and have zero issues. I made sure I had 4GB on that machine to handle the everyday demand if I decide to run it virtual with VMware. I also have a ThinkPad T61 with 2GB of RAM and all the lovely upgrades. Vista Business on it. Zero problems.
Yeah, a basic computer for $600 or so with 1GB of RAM, got it from CrapBuy and I’m trying to run Photoshop on it…I’m going to have issues eventually. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve crashed a Mac desktop when running Quark, Photoshop and Lotus Notes. Stable the OS may be, but not when you try to do everyday work and tax the machine with certain programs.
It would make perfect sense, that a comedian would make the advertising campaign for the OS that we have all joked about for years.
To be honest, I have little or no more issues with this version of windows that with any other.
@bluehorseshoe Yeah, that’s my basis. Sure, Apple spends tons promoting its products like the iPhone and “Mac vs. PC.” But seriously, after close to two years on the market, people downgrading from Vista to XP, people opting to get XP instead of Vista on their new computers, this seems like a stretch (maybe a desperate one) for Microsoft. And like you said, hardware demands, driver issues, compatibility issues, and software slowed the rollout of Vista. How smart was that on Windows’ part? Now they’re playing catch up. It seems like they’re saying, “Hey guys! Vista isn’t really all that bad! Promise!”
It’s like the tale of the guy who promises a year of change, gets dumped by his girlfriend, finally comes around and tries to hook up with her six months later… and fails.
A handful of commenters here who say, “I haven’t had any problems with Vista so STFU” is hardly a representative sample for the “success” of Vista.
There’s a problem with this. Seinfeld always used a Mac on the show. And Will Ferrell has done Mac ads in the past.
Its amazing what some people will do for the MONEY. Just goes to show you can NOT believe everything you read and see.
In My eyes, this just proves “HEY” the money is what made me see the lite.
Does this mean that Muslim terrorists will stop using Windows OS?
George W Bush speaking here. If you use Vista, you are a terrorist. I have intelligence which leads me to believe Vista is storing weapons of mass destruction. Vista users beware, we bomb first and ask questions later…. Way later…
@Marc, I’m curious as to how extensively you’ve used Vista to be able to formulate your own opinion. Everybody has added their own experiences with the OS, but all you keep saying is based on things other people have said. You remind me of the drones from http://mojaveexperiment.com/.
I don’t want to get into an OS war whatsoever, but really, the Vista bashing is extremely old. In its current state, compatibility is almost a non issue and I have still yet to see any of the bugs anybody keeps complaining about. Use it as your workhorse for 6 months before you knock it.
As for some other random comments floating around, 65% memory usage of 2gb’s isn’t Vista; it’s the users inability to use msconfig. UAC was also designed for PC-newbs altogether, which is why the option to turn it off exists in the first place.
@JonnyBruha Actually, and this is an aside, the Mojave Experiment (for everyone here who majored in science) was a poorly conducted and executed experiment. The results resembled that of an armchair economist’s rather than an actual scientist or social scientist.
Back at hand, I use Mac OSX and Windows Vista… I bet you can guess which I like most. On Windows, I do the bulk of my work on CS3 and code in AS3 and heavily use Photoshop and Illustrator. Though I like them both, but prefer Mac, when I get snide about Vista it must be those times I fondly reflect back on instances where I felt like throwing my XPS across the room.
I’m a mac fan for sure but I think Seinfeld is a good choice. I liked his HP commercial that coincided with his Bee movie that came out. As a dual booter with Vista I have really no complaints with it since the SP came out. For me it works as it should for the most part, still would never choose it over OSX but its not as bad as the hype.
no, it’s a hearsay. when i was at a electronic store getting a notebook. i overheard people saying my friend told me that vista was bad and get an xp. no wonder vista is in the gutter it’s the bad rumor on vista that’s going around. then again it was probably before sp1. still vista is a power hog even on a six cell battery i rarely get more than an hour and a half running on amd puma. hopefully windows 7 will be better supposedly it’s running on windows 2008 server kernel that is supposedly energy
efficient.
