Seinfeld: The New Face of Windows Vista?

…is this the new mug for Vista? Our beloved, impeccable, and extremely user-friendly Windows OS? All kidding aside, it seems like Windows is still desperate as ever to push Vista into your home or office if you haven’t been forced to take it already. After a year-and-a-half on the market, Microsoft’s Vista has still been taking a backseat to Windows XP and pirated copies of XP Pro and other XP variants. Companies like Dell have even offered to install XP into their computers for free, though at one point there was a premium to pay for choosing XP over Vista. That’s not even counting how many people have “downgraded” to XP from Vista directly. With a reception like that, what is a company to do? Hire celebrities!
As we know, Microsoft is pouring $300 million into a huge ad campaign attempting to convince us Vista isn’t terrible - and Jerry Seinfeld’s help may just be the beginning. It’s also rumored that funny-boys Will Ferrell and Chris Rock are being considered for this face lift. With that kind of financial and celebrity backing, who knows? It just might be enough for people to overlook Vista’s shortcomings. You know what they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? And if it is broke, why fix it when you can push it with smart heavy advertising and famous celebrities? Expect to see them around starting September 4.

Maybe I’m the only one but Vista gives me no trouble..

Yes, shortcomings like what exactly?

I run Vista Ultimate and have been for 1 1/2 years. I had little problems but ever since SP1 I have had ZERO Problems. Runs just as fast on my laptop as XP does (I have a dual boot happening). Just my 2 cents

Vista works great for me Vista>>>XP

Why not just push Windows 7 faster or spend the money to Service Pack 2: Vista?
Shortcomings: Its not as practical as it predecessor, uses more power so mobility is comprimised, requires much more rescources, pain in the rear built-in security (allow/deny) etc.
In comparison to Xp, Leopard, Ubuntu, I’d go with any of the alternatives.
If M$ gave Vista gave its current features to Xp SP3, shave some things (0% bloat/no trials) & rebadged it. It’d be a best seller.

Uh, I thought Seinfeld was a long time Mac fan. He always had a Mac in his tv apartment; along with Superman and dry cereal, weren’t those supposed to be favorite things from his real life?

I don’t have any problem with Vista either, a stable functional OS. Do the bells and whistles take up a lot of resources ? For sure, I could live without them. On the other hand an extra Gig of memory isn’t that expensive so If you’re buy a machine personally it’s not a big deal. It would have been nice if MS had release a lean and mean version of Vista for the corporate world that would have run well with the same system requirements as XP. I agree, they would have sold millions of them.

It has not been that bad and I am certainly no MS fan. It has yet to crash on me at all. I can’t say that for XP.

Vista has worked fine for me, however it uses wayyyy too much RAM for an OS (Come on! 64% of 2GB at boot!!).
I still prefer XP over vista though - now if only MSFT would bring Aero over to XP, then I’d be much happier!

Another vote for Vista’s rock solid reliability.

JFC!… People need to seriously quit the Vista bashing. I have been using Vista Ultimate on a laptop now for 1 1/2 years, a home PC for 7 months and recently started switching over all our PC’s here at work. Stable from day one.
I have had minimal issues with Vista. Yes, it can be resource intense, but turn off Aero. It’s not needed.
Also, I love how people love to bash Vista yet turn a blind eye to Apple and their latest and greatest OS. My brother’s girlfriend has a Macbook (not sure the model or it’s specs 100% so I won’t comment on them) but it’s from early 2005 running OSX 10.3. She was told her Macbook that was 2 1/2 years old would not support OSX 10.5 and she’d need a new one that 10.4 is the highest she could go.
Then, my brother buys her an iPod for Christmas (2nd gen Nano) and it’s not compatible with OSX 10.3. Period. End of story. The ‘geniuses’ at the Apple store told her to buy a new Macbook as they couldn’t help her get to the minimum required 10.4 OS or to go find a copy on eBay.
WTF?! Who designs a product that isn’t compatible with an OS that is only 2 revisions (not full versions) behind the current?!
Okay, the point of my story is this… Vista may have it’s quirks but the media blew it out of proportion and people continue to make mountains out of mole hills.

RJJ: what exactly is your point? That old hardware won’t run the current OS? The horror! Actually, if the iBook was purchased in 2005, it can run 10.5, but not well (unlike Vista, OS X doesn’t ship in pussified, dumbed down versions with cute little nicknames). But hey, I’m sure all those people that bought “Vista-ready” and “Vista-capable” PCs are doing just fine, and that there hasn’t been a class action lawsuit complete with embarassing MS E-mails or anything.

Typical article from this site. Bash Vista without knowing what the hell you’re talking about (short comings?…please, elaborate my technical genius friend). I run Vista with zero issues, and I use a MAC (Vista for work), but live in the real world of being open minded and not posting articles based on what my suppliers would like to see (Apple, AT&T).
BTW…the Seinfeld news your posting is old.

i got vista ualtimate cause the xp on it got coruppt sytem files on it all thime and fcrashed
vista dosn’t crash or give me any BSOD’s you turn off the visual effects youd swear it looks like XP. it seems to me XP fans wnat the features of vista but fon’t want to pay for the upgrades.
one comenter compaled how it’sa rescource hog an then wanted aero on XP. Thats an oxxymoron cause then it waoul just hog as many rescources as vista? you can’t have it both ways.
this is one reasons why amercia is dead last an bradband speeds and mobile phone tech most are slow and resistant to change wanthings to stay the same and can’t or don’t want to pay for it.

I think it rather interesting that all the people who say they are running Vista with no issues are running Vista ULTIMATE. The majority of the consumer complaints are about Vista Home & even Vista Business. I know several people who have Vista Home & every time you turn around they are having issues with this software not being compatible or in the case of my gramps who DVD burner can no longer read or write DVD’s (& NO it’s NOT a driver issue) because of a conflict in WMP 11!!!! (TRUST he’s NOT the only one do the research!!!) Vista is slow, bloated, & incompatible & there are millions of people out there reporting these issues & yet somehow you seem to think the media made that schitt up? How are you YOU doing YOUR research before making statements like that!!!

lol This is funny. There are plenty of LEGITIMATE copies of 10.4 Tiger running around that she could easily buy to fix this simple issue & unlike Vista which can EASILY cost you a whopping 300.00USD she can have the upgrade for $40.00 or LESS. Problem solved with a WHOLE lot less issues & drama & CASH!!!

Vista is fine for the majority of folks. The biggest problem with Vista’s initial rollout was that products that were listed as Vista ready, were clearly not. That is no longer the case, and Vista is quite stable and works just fine.

Yeah, she could go get a copy of OSX 10.4, and I will even understand that 10.5 will not work on her laptop that is 2 1/2 years old, but seriously how can her iPod not work with OSX 10.3??? I could understand Apple not supporting Windows, but it’s their own damn product.
Why should she have to go searching for another REVISION of an OS just to be able to use iTunes and her new iPod???
Also, we use Vista Business here at work with zero problems. Minor NTLM issue with archaic network hardware (SnapServer) but that’s it.
And Vista Ultimate does not cost $300. It can be had for $65 (upgrade).

Apple software is so much cheaper. I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t just use it. Wait, because I have to buy the hardware and that will be cheap! Oh, maybe not. Damn.

So this means that the target demographic for MS Vista fence-sitters is over 50?

Great to hear from you all; the handful who are having no problems whatsoever with Windows Vista. I guess that’s why Microsoft has decided to allocate $300 million dollars to promote Vista, right? Reinforcement.
