Is the PSP-3000 Screen Really THAT Much Better? Yes.

Sony officially announced the PSP-3000 this week and gamers found themselves asking a question that really didn’t bode well for the updated system: “Is a new button, a mic and a new screen really worth an upgrade?” Well kids, a quick gander at the image above might help you come a little closer to answering that conundrum. All we can say is WOW. The striking resemblance between the PSP-2000 and the PSP-3000 comes to a grinding halt the second you turn that sucker on. The new LCD display has five times the contrast ratio, twice the color range and responds twice as fast as its predecessor. To put it another way, it kicked the PSP-2000 display in the shin and stole its lunch money. So far only the European pricing is known (€199) but we can say that the PSP-3000 is supposed to hit US shores in mid-October around the same time as the European launch. So gamers, what do you think? Does this comparison shot have you singing a different tune or is it still not worth the (probable) $250 – $300 entry fee?

The PSP-3000 will not cost $250-$300 but is going to be priced the same as the current PSP-2000 line. Just the system costs $169, while the Ratchet & Clank Entertainment Pack and the 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack are each $199. PSPFanboy has the release dates and specs of whats included – http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/08/20/psp-3000-north-american-details/

I think its worth it and am glad I held out for this version instead of the PSP-2000.

Are there any other hardware upgrades besides what is metioned? Things that might affect actual game play?

    lol @ cacao

but yea the picture look like a bad angle shot, i mean look at the glare on the 2000. Barely can see the screen on it, and the 3000 is a flat shot. come on now, if they want to fool someone, let apple sponsor it.

    lol

from that angle if the 2000 was on the bottom and 3000 on top the 2000 would look nice and glare free. who are they kidding

I am so happy I sold my White Japanese Import PSP today. Now I can feel good when I buy this one when it comes out. The resolution of the screen in the shot is impressive…

BGR, the PSP-2000 screen simply never looked that bad. Remove the glare and the bad camera angle and let’s compare again.

The New LCD Screen will cut the battery life by 20-30 mins! I Don’t Really think that upgrading my psp-2000 to 3000 just for a mic and a brighter screen is worth it. If you want a mic just buy a headset for $20 and save a LOT of money. I would just wait until there is a real upgrade for the psp, like how the ps2 upgraded to a ps3, not just for minor upgrades =)

    Malcolm says:

I think people who don’t have a PSP yet should get the 3000. After all, it is the same price and will still come bundled with games. So what if it didn’t get another joystick, Sony isn’t pricing it higher than current ones.
