Sony Ericsson TM506 Announed; T-Mobile 3G Support

So you’re thinking to yourself, “ok so now I know which markets T-Mobile is deploying 3G in this year, but what about some new 3G handsets?” It’s a fair question and we’re glad you asked. Say hello to the latest handset to be announced by T-Mobile US, the Sony Ericsson TM506. It’s no G1 but it is most definitely a solid and sleek basic handset with more than enough juice for the typical mobile user. And beyond that, it rocks a UMTS antenna ready and waiting to eat up T-Mobile’s AWS 3G spectrum. Some music, maestro:

    Hi says:

So sense it has the 2100 band, does that mean that you can use it on Europe’s 3G network also? or is it different?

A friend of mine was beta testing this phone. It’s a cool flip phone but the internet is TERRIBLE. This thing better not cost more than $100 because it sure as heck didn’t feel pricey.

Would be nice to see the GSM/900 band since its still being used overseas but this is still great start for tmobile. Tmobile going 3G isnt going to happen overnight but once it’s here it will be much faster then what ATT has to offer.

    bluemonq says:

@Hi @Jimmy: European systems use 1900 for upload and 2100 for download. The TM506 uses 1700 for upload and 2100 for download. Now, it is common to refer to the European system simply as 2100, and for differentiation T-Mo’s AWS system is sometimes called 1700. So whether or not it will be Europe-compatible will depend on how SE is using the term “dual-band”.
