CDMA Touch Diamond outsizes its GSM competition

If you’re awaiting for the impending arrival of a CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond, you might want to stop and consider these spy shots. What you see above is, believe it or not, a side-by-side comparison of the GSM and CDMA HTC Touch Diamond handsets. Notice something amiss? Yeah, we see it too. The CDMA incarnation is, well, rather portly. We don’t have the official specs, but suffice to say that these real world shots paint the CDMA Touch in a bit of an unflattering light. For what it’s worth the poster seems to think that the CDMA Touch sits quite comfortably in hand. We’re not so sure, but will obviously have to reserve final judgment until we can handle one of our own. Until then, consider yourselves fairly warned.

Well… They are not spy shots… I took those photos the same evening I brought home my Telus Diamond. It is not the Raphael (pro)
The battery is indeed 1340mah and does not last any longer then its gsm counter part at 900mah because ev-do rev a sucks that extra juice out pretty quickly. (I can only compare against the gsm edge as 3G north american bands were not available on my Asian Diamond so I would assume had hsdpa been used the gsm Diamond would die faster)
The CDMA Diamond is 2mm thicker and trully does feel better in hand. The GSM version feels like it is built with a heavier material for the outside metal bevel (where HTC Innovation is etched) but the extra size of the CDMA version makes up the weight in its larger size. Pretty close overall.

I get so bloody tired of listening to these iphone monks bowing down and worshiping the apple throne. Get with it folks, in actuality, that throne flushes. This picture is purposfully deceptive. showing only the side. The angle is different on the backplate, that’s all. They’re both the same size. I’ve been testing the Diamond and the Raphael for more than two months now. I’ve found some glitches and suggested some feature enhancements, but all-in-all this phone is absolutely tits! Its the most powerful device Ive seen in 10 years of working Wireless. iphone be damned. HTC really spiced up the cool aid with both the Diamond and the Raphael. Good luck apple, you’re about to be cored.

@Dario9: I’ve had the BJ2 and the Touch pro. Neither of those devices beat the iPhone in battery life. The Touch was a Sprint model and it had to be charged twice to make it though the day. The BJ2 was miserable as well and didn’t run wifi. As far as I know, the 3G iPhone was not hyped for it’s extraordinary battery life. the 2G was but it, as most 2G device, had excellent battery life. I’m just sick of everyone singling out the iPhone for every little bitchy post. This is the same story with EVERY device. Everyone bitches because a device doesn’t have 3G, big high res screen, GPS, BT and wifi and when they get those things, they bitch about battery life. And I mentioned the Tilt because it was supposed to be the end all of phones when it was released.

Face it, none of the loaded devices are going to have long battery life without making a brick out of them. If you are travel a lot without access to a charger, your best bet is a 2G Blackberry with low res screen. The rest of us can generally get by charging in the car or at the office.

That appears to be a Touch Pro below the Touch Diamond.

@hamlet… look at the rest of the pics. Your a moron if you don’t look at everything involved… there was no deception and they are indeed different sizes.

Don’t think it will fit comfortable in your hand???
    Wow!

Seriously, this thing is tiny. Don’t take my word for it. See it first hand in my ongoing review video site for the Diamond (Telus Version:

From what I have read so far, you can get a larger (1300 milli-amp/hour) battery for the GSM version (thicker battery, comes with a thicker back plate). I believe the Sprint version of the diamond (CDMA) is going to come with the 1300mha battery already installed, hence the thicker backplate. I can deal with an extra 3mm thickness for an extra 40% battery life! I think Sprint saw this early on.

Just a heads up guys, you know that sleek, glossy, diamond-like finish that you see pictured on the battery cover of the diamond? Well the telus cdma version doesnt include it – it comes with a really basic, flat finished cover that just says telus 3.2mp camera. I, without realizing the difference in the gsm/cdma sizes, bought a GSM cover from HK for $10 on ebay. Damn thing looks great but doesn’t fit!

Just thought id potentially save you some time and money.
