Rogers announces official Blackberry Bold release date, August 21st

After several months of rumored release dates, false promises, disappointing rumors, and unfortunate delays Rogers Wireless has finally announced that the Blackberry Bold will be available beginning this Thursday, August 21st. While this is roughly 2 months after the first rumored release dates it’s still the first chance any of us in North American will have to purchase the handset via carrier-subsidized channels. Sure, interested parties are still looking at $399 on a 3-year contract, which is a bit insane given the relative cost of other competing handsets, but if you’re as excited about getting your hands on the latest and greatest RIM handset as we are, price is secondary to actual availability. Rogers employees have confirmed that they should be receiving their shipments beginning tomorrow, so lt’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief and summon a slow clap for RIM having finally ushered this beast out the door.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Will I have to wait until Halloween to buy a Bold from AT&T? Will they charge $399 like Rogers?

I’ll buy a Curve today if either of these statements is true.

Maybe when it is released in the states, we should ignore it for the first few days to show them what it feels like to be left till last. hey if the thing is such a piece of garbage that it won’t even run on our network, then who needs it. My old curve is showing its age but at least it came out in a timely fashion and works. Something the iPhone can’t even say the second time around. They drag us around by our noses, then give us garbage.

iphone 3g came out on time, but “works” is a stretch. just got rid of mine yesterday after barely a week. battery life was a joke and had loads of dropped calls in full signal area. sorry for going off topic.

all you americans complaining about a 4 week delay at least will get a deal worthy of consideration.
$400 + 15% sales tax and 3 year contract with laughable data plans is nothing to envy.

You definitely have a point. I just don’t understand how, if this device really has been in development for longer than the iPhone’s existence, it is having network/battery/whatever x infinity problems ONLY on AT&T.

Seems like either a load of crap or some serious lack of preparation on a RIM engineer’s part.

Rogers site says the bold is “expandable to 8 gigabytes”….
Thought it was expandable up to 16 gigabytes? Hopefully At&t’s will go up to 16 GB’s….

Keep hating on blue till end October / beginning November.

By the time the Bold is out on AT&T, it will be about 18 months since the 8800, its predecessor launched. By this time, RIM is deep in development for the successor of the Bold.

How did you know? Aug 12th AT&T field testers had to exchange their devices for new ones. Which means this is a RIM problem and not AT&T. We are looking at sometime around Halloween for a release on AT&T.

399$ is a lot but if you compare it to the N95 which also was 399$ when it came out, the Bold is perhaps a better Deal. The N95 dropped to 199$ before the Iphone release date.
If you compare it to the ~15 Bucks what they charge you for the unit at TMO on a 2 year term (Relax 1000)in Germany, Rogers can’t get close
I went and signed up on Rogers website “no updates at all”. No changes to their website, nothing confirmed in terms of dates. I am not saying BG is not correct, but you would think they make some more noise about the Bold!!??
