New iPhone Software 2.0.2 Today, New iPhone Shipment for AT&T Tomorrow

First things first, we just got word that iPhone owners can look forward to a nice little firmware update coming their way in just over half an hour. Version 2.0.2 (5C1) is due to hit iTunes at 5:00 pm EST today and will consist mainly of performance tweaks. This might be very good news however, if you’re one of the many people having issues with your shiny new iPhone 3G. You know, the select few now known as “Jobs’ 2%”. With any luck the upcoming update will resolve the “issues” he referred to in his one-liner and all will be right again in the world. In related iPhone 3G news, we also have confirmation that AT&T stores will in fact be receiving iPhone 3G shipments tomorrow. As we reported initially, these shipments will likely primarily serve those waiting for existing orders to be fulfilled and we’re not sure exactly what portion will be available for walk-ins. At any rate, hopefully the shipment will be sizable and will help AT&T catch up with the crazy demand.

Does it add the still missing MMS functionality? No? Still not buying the iPhone.
Add “New Pwnage soon after that” to the title
I live in an area with a marginal 3G signal. I have noticed an improvement in maintaining calls on 3G rather than handing off to 2G. Also, during data sessions, I am not dropping from 3G to EDGE. Very encouraging.
One additional note, the keyboard lag in contacts and sms are gone.
Jailbreaking is done to install apps. Unlocking is done to use the phone on different networks than those intended.
There isn’t a unlock present for the 3G iPhone yet.
I’ve used the 3G for a few weeks now with no problems what so ever…. I guess that I’m not in the very verbal 2% minority or the network coverage must be ideal.

yay it says my iphone is shipped from texas through fedex this morning!! finally at&t..
oops
Well,
A lot of these improvements “faster speed”, no crashing, better signal, may simply come from rebooting the device.
Without being negative, I see no difference after testing for 20minutes whatsoever.
To anyone with 3G signal problems, reboot your device before compariing with post-upgrade.
Yes … I installed the iPhone version 2.0.2 update today.
i am in the DC area
never had problems with lack of 3g
like i said no diferences for me
if anything exchange active sync is acting up a litle, but that seems to be normal with my iphone
I have more bars now. At least it seems that way.
Dude MMS sucks on any device so i really don’t know what’s the big deal with MMS,
Why incorporated MMS if they might be thinking about implementing ichat????
Thanks, I was able to download the update. I haven’t noticed anything really different with the reception. I was hoping this update would fix my gps. The locator pin is still off by a few blocks.
Well I just installed 2.0.2 and went from 3 bars of 3G (5 on my Blackjack) to 2 to 4 bars so I don’t know if this was supposed to have done anything with 3G reception. If it did, it didn’t do much.
One major problem I have seen with MMS: Incompatible file types. Not so much of a problem with pictures, but once you get into audio and video. Depending on the phone that’s sending and the phone thats receiving – you may or may not be able to view that MMS.
I’ve sued my phone for about 5 hours now since the 2.0.2 update. I can’t tell a difference. Although I did have 3 phones calls and none of them dropped.
Doesn’t look good … http://tinyurl.com/69azbw
iPhone 2G: Had 2 Safari crashes that required a reboot after update.
100+meg audiobook/Speed test in safari.
General / reset / reset network. This should do the trick for your wifi woes…
I’m just curious……first generation iPhone comes out….people snag them up and then complain about it…… second generation iPhones come out, people snag them up again and once again….complaints come in….what is it with people and their fascination of gadgets and then finding reasons to complain about it? I purchased the first generation after 3 months it came out……for the entire year I had no complaints…no issues. I took good care of it, used it and enjoyed it.
I just picked up my iPhone 3G…..sure battery life could be better, but consider all the technology packed inside this tiny device…..the 3G network by AT&T could have hick ups…..I expect the phones to have hick ups as well…that’s why we have software updates….
No matter what, people need to calm down, enjoy the device and report any bugs. They will be fixed….never easy to beat a great product….but consider the additions such as 3G, GPS, APPS, etc…..you have to give Apple props…it is a cool device and all competitors are trying hard to compete against it. I used to have the HTC 8525 which has PocketPC. That had errors as well but I used it and continued to enjoy it….until I got my iPhone….I will never switch away from it unless someone can come up with something that beats the iPhone. Sofar no one has. You paid good money because you wanted to have it. Now you own it…play with it, update it and wait for the next generation of iPhones.
Have fun with the unit…..nothing comes close….even for gaming…
I did the 2.02 upgrade on my Gen1 iPhone last night.
Typing is not lagging anymore.
Everything else seems the same, no negative effects from the upgrade.
I guess for first generation iPhones, it fixed the slowtype problem that 2.0 created.
Things I’ve learned about MMS:
It sucks, the only people who send me picture messages are the same people that send me stupid pictures that I can’t even make out. It’s almost worthless, send an e-mail, most picture phones are garbage anyway.
Was hoping this release would add a feature so an audible tone can be added to calendar/meeting reminders. Sure my meeting reminders popup on the screen, but most times I don’t see. Having the ability to assign a tone like I had on my Treo would be icing on the cake!
Lets make it happen Apple!!!
Since i updated last night my 3G reception got worse. My phone has not collected data for mail in over 30 mins and safari wont open. Funny thing is it says 3G on top and i have 5 bars.
I use speedtest app and speed could not be tested in last half hour either.
We should give apple a break, its AT&T that sucks hairy ass balls. their network is the worst. I got the call failed error most of the day.
I hate you AT&T – oh wait, they no longer read this site. good riddance
Also, why is apple mail so bad. Yea its Activesync but it doesn’t utilize 20% of its features. I cant search mail, mark as read, flag for follow up, forward/reply from msg view without opening – should just be able to hold down the MSG in inbox and have prompts pop up like save image .
Please dont say ” all they have to do is software update” they update – no new logical features.
Good attitude. Daniel Soeyadi
