New iPhone Software 2.0.2 Today, New iPhone Shipment for AT&T Tomorrow

First things first, we just got word that iPhone owners can look forward to a nice little firmware update coming their way in just over half an hour. Version 2.0.2 (5C1) is due to hit iTunes at 5:00 pm EST today and will consist mainly of performance tweaks. This might be very good news however, if you’re one of the many people having issues with your shiny new iPhone 3G. You know, the select few now known as “Jobs’ 2%”. With any luck the upcoming update will resolve the “issues” he referred to in his one-liner and all will be right again in the world. In related iPhone 3G news, we also have confirmation that AT&T stores will in fact be receiving iPhone 3G shipments tomorrow. As we reported initially, these shipments will likely primarily serve those waiting for existing orders to be fulfilled and we’re not sure exactly what portion will be available for walk-ins. At any rate, hopefully the shipment will be sizable and will help AT&T catch up with the crazy demand.

hopefully it works with jailbroken phones

It’ll make it no longer jailbroken.

With the iTunes App store and the iPhone 3G only compatible with AT&T’s 3G spectrum - who needs a jailbreak?
Unless you have a 1st Gen iPhone you use on T-Mobile in which case, you don’t need 2.0.2
It’s really only helpful for the iPhone 3G folks.

I want the jailbreak on the 3G iphone for the apps that Apple won’t let onto the apple store. And to create a way to tether the phone to my laptop.

Tried to update but version 2.01 shows up as the latest. Anyone get 2.02?

Does anyone no why I’m not able to connect to wifi after 2.0 update? I’m hoping its something wrong with the software and it will be fixed through firmware update.
I read somewhere that 2.0 had corrupted the hardware on 1st gen iphone. is this true? thanks guys

Tethering is such a waste. I have an Express card 3G modem that works faster than any phone on the market. Full speed UTMS and it works without setting up a stupid adhoc wifi network.

Holy crap! 248.7 MB update?! This is larger than the 2.0.1 update and it’s going to take twice as long! Apple, Apple, Apple… you slippin’!

jeepik, where are you from? Does your area just have really good (or really bad) 3G coverage? I think that was supposed to be the most noticeable update.

Well, well, well… after doing the update. I have NO 3G SERVICE WHATSOEVER in my house. I used to get 1 or 2 bars. Great!

Hey Marc,
I think you may have to re-boot the phone after downloading the update. Try that and see if it works.

Dan,
You may have to go into the iTunes menu bar and select “search for updates.”
You’ll get 2.0.2 then.

did the install seems snappier, contacts still lag

Bloom, I did just that and now have 1 bar. I honestly don’t think this update was intended to fix network or reception issues. I believe those are coming in September. This is apparently to fix springboard errors and typing lag. We’ll see if my keyboard ever lags again (it rarely ever did).

Is there support for new languages?

I did the current update and I now have 5 bars and 3G. Yea! Just wonder about the dropped calls on the road now.
