Palm Treo Pro Rears its Not so Ugly Head

Back in May we showed you the first live images of the upcoming Palm Treo 850 and shortly after that we ran down the spec highlights. It looks like everything we showed you and reported is pretty spot on except for one thing: the name. Palm will apparently be dipping outside of its convention and slapping this sucker with a “Pro” moniker rather than the digit format we’re used to. Fair enough. As good as this handset looks, we’re sure the fellas over at Palm are eager to get it out to market. A bit too eager perhaps? Someone over at Palm jumped the gun yesterday and the Palm Treo Pro made its debut on the Palm website a little ahead of schedule it would seem. The Treo Pro portion of the site was pulled down pretty quickly, but not quickly enough of course. Hit the jump for two full screen captures from Palm’s boo boo along with a little reminder of what this puppy looks like in the wild.

That looks pretty hot. I wonder if it was an accidental posting or whether they just wanted to see what everyone thought about their new design. I’m sure the general consensus will be that this looks remarkable.

I wonder how this thing compares, size-wise, against the Centro.

That definitely doesn’t look too bad. I wonder though, would them naming it the Treo Pro have anything to do with trying to purposely confuse it with the Touch Pro?

When’s the release date? Does it look like it’ll come out before the end of 2008?

Question answered. Gizmodo has some more live shots. It looks to be in between an older Treo and the Centro, size-wise.

My question: When is it scheduled to be released, and on what carrier(s)?

Outside of Palm adding a little plastic glam, what does this candy bar do that other 6.0/6.1 WinMo phones don’t do? At a time when the Blackberry Bold is being released, and calling this thing the ‘Pro’, what’s with the Centro’s FisherPrice keyboard too?

I have to admit that Palm finally did something write with the design, that definitely is an attractive design. The company that let blackberry and htc whoop that you know what might actually have ssome fight left in them

Seriously? Look at all those hard buttons, no other phone has those - instant access to email, texts, calendar, etc. Plus you have an options button, and an alt button. You’re two buttons away from launching basically any app you want.

No other phone in this form factor has all these features, battery size and it’s slimmer than the centro and the keyboard is wider.

Flush screen, load up the htc interface - this is better than the touch pro.

^ Gee … If only the 700wx/750 could do all that! Oh yeah … That’s right … It can!

… AND I don’t have to pay a few hundred bucks (plus a new contract) for the Pro’s plastic cosmetics!

As a loyal palm user, now vz treo700p, I am now looking into other phones as the palm stable in vz is awful.. I was told about blackberry thunder, and now with this site I found the new palm.. the problem now is speed and features. Ilove the touch screen, hate the slowness when the phone looks for service, or if someone is calling in.. because the touch screen has lost its precision. I have several clients who LOVE their Iphones, but I heard one complaint the software drops calls when switching cell towers. If this palm comes out with the features of the 700, and the speed of the blackberry, I will have a tough decision. However, I am about to pick a phone, so whatever comes first, I will probably go to that phone for a year commitment…

But, it’s still a windows mobile phone.

Who cares about the button layout, it’s the OS that really makes the phone, and winmo is just not reliable enough for a phone.

Holy cow! Thanks for the breaking news…. I had no idea Palm was still in the game. :) seriously, as a BB convert from Palm (I resisted for years), it’s good to see a new offering.
