Alright AT&Tizzle, you won. You’ve blocked people from accessing BGR on your network (unless they are pretty high up), so we’re blocking you. That’s right. All the higher-ups will no longer be able to surf BGR. They’ll have to resort to viewing our scoops on the thousands of sites that pick them up. It was fun while it lasted, but we have a feeling you’ll miss us a lot more than we’ll miss you.
UPDATE: Looks like we’re frandz again. AT&T has removed the block on BGR! Thanks, tipsters!

ha ha bg when I worked at the corporate hq I used to always check out the site and hell even submitted that screen cap about that iphone page from there.

My bad should have read more, your right internal networks can block what goes out of their company and is legal. If they think you are wasting company time or letting information they have out they will do it.

Sickness. Now watch the higher’s up’s who can barely use Excel Spreadsheets call tech support to say that their serverz have been HaXor’d and they can’t get to see a website.
lmao - nicely done!

I can officially state that your tactics worked! AT&T is now allowing me to read BGR at work again. Nice job guys, it only took them one day to change their minds.

I THOUGHT BGR DIDNT WORK FOR ATNT WHEN THEY HAD THAT WHOLE CRACKBERRY VS BGR THING.. OH HOW DUMB YOU ALL FEEL NOW. I TOLD YOU BGR WORKED FOR ATNT NO ONE BELIEVED ME. HOW ELSE WOULD HE HAVE THROWN THAT PARTY WITH JUST BLAZE AND THEM FOR THE ATNT TILT RELEASE. THATS WHY YOU ARE ALWAYS PUSHING ATNT DEVICES… ALAS HOW SAD AND YES I DO READ YOUR SITE EVERYDAY BUT MANY TIMES YOUR INFORMATION IS WAY OFF… PROBABLY WHY I STARTED READING ENGADGED MOBILE AND CRACKBERRY TO BEGIN WITH..

FYI BGR works fine on at&t systems. they updated our IT policy yesterday to BLOCK alot of sites. The reason was not against BGR it was against employees browsing the internet and ingorning customers walking into the store. We filed a form syaing BGR is company related since it pertains to the mobile and technology industry and guess what it got unblocked! So please dont rush to conclusions that at&t is against BGR. Thanks

Nice BG. Another reason to love your site
AT&T is just looking for bad publicity with this one.
If BGR blocks all of AT&T’s network though, that might be abit of overkill. How about considering a rolling brownout or a temporary block of all of AT&T’s network? I’m sure there’s lots of folks on their networks that love BGR as much as I do so why punish them too?

I think this was a good story, it showed everyone what commenters have no reading comprehension as well as which ones have never worked at a corporation.

I can’t believe the morons still thinking this affects anything but AT&T’s internal systems and networks even after 4 pages of posts and replies. Take a few moments to read before spouting nonsense regarding matters you have no clue about. Yes, I have MonkeyDawg and Cucko in mind here. GEEZ!

I don’t think Boy Genius is blocking consumers using AT&T to access his site.
I think Boy Genius is going to block all traffic coming from AT&T corporate IP addresses to his site. That way he is blocking them from monitoring the scoops on their competitors.
By the way, any company can block access to anything they want on their network because of the lost productivity and inherent liability they incur. If some of their employees start downloading torrents, surfing for porn, etc. the company would be held accountable.

Please stop saying “Freedom of speech” as companies are allowed to, and routinely block Web site all the time.

It’s always touching to read the numerous posters who kneel loyally to lick the boots of their corporate paymasters by citing an action (fill in the blank) is not illegal.
It may be censorious, it may be mean-spirited, it may be short-sighted, it may be draconian, it may be an insult to the rank and file, but hey … it’s not illegal.

Whoa, what a low blow by AT&T. On the other hand, what’s to stop them from going to their laptop and typing in boygeniusreport.com? Man, that is a really low blow by AT&T… That’s like when you’re running around playing basketball and having a fan jump out of the stands and tackle you… that’s just not right.

hhe blocking access form att coprate networke
?
first off running interference with ma bell to having any effect on them youd have to disrupt alot of corporate infrastructure. Bad word of mouth and loss of busness an sinnkg stock prices are a better way to hit them and make them take notice. help start a boycot or something.
I Knew a guy whol lives in jersey who used to work for ATT copreate as a Store Manager man He could tell you about some bass ackwards business practices EG taking managment from sprint

I think Josh AT&T has cleared up the events. I deal with IT policies daily, and we have the same exact practice, if a site gets blocked by a new policy, users must fill out a form asking for it to be allowed. It’s rather surprising that ATT would be doing this in the middle of 2008.
Goes to show how unsecure Corporate America really is, and from a lot of these posts, it shows how uneducated a user is.. dangerous combination.

OMG - HOW MANY TIMES MUST WE SAY THIS????
LOL at shON with the same thought I was thinking…
you’re TECH PEOPLE and can’t understand what BGR is saying here?????
HOLY S**T!
Yes (MUCH SARCASM FOLLOWS) - AT&T is now blocking BGR from it’s network. You will no longer able to access BGR on any AT&T device. PDAs, iPhones, BlackBerrys. Even the regular flip phones. Doesn’t matter what browser either. IE, Opera, Mini-Opera, Skyfire, WAP browsers… No BGR anymore. Bwahahahahahaha!
Oh yeah - and AT&T DSL? Nope. You’ll have to get on cable or some other DSL. And make sure they don’t have a partnership with AT&T’s lines or towers. If your signal request for http://www.boygeniusreport.com comes ANYWHERE NEAR AT&T - your phone will shut down, your computer will lock up and you’ll get the spinning AT&T Globe of DEATH!
Bwahahahahaa….
Okay - seriously people. Let’s get this straight.
AT&T is a company that pays its employees to do a certain job. They do not pay them to sit on the computer and read blogs. Therefore, AT&T can have it’s IT department block out websites that are not approved to look at.
AT&T is not the ONLY company that does this. Many corporations do this. They want their employees working, not commenting on how they won’t be able to access BGR on their phones.
DOH! You people either are really funny, or really scaring me because you are tech people who should know this. Oy Vay.

Haha, here @ our AT&T store we noticed this and we all freaked out!!! BGR is our lifeline to the outside world!!! (and our competitors!) Not only was this blocked but the revamp of the network blocked a TON of other useful sites… liek Craigslist!

wow people
seriously, the site wasnt unblocked because at&t was ’scared’ of bgr, or because bgr ‘blocked’ at&t. it was because enough employees reported the site to be allowed. on that page it allows us to click a link if we feel the site isnt supposed to be blocked.
wow. haha u guys crack me up

As long as they don’t block Google Reader some of their more tech savvy employees should have no problem getting updates.

@Sh0n: I agree with blocking of sites inside a corporate network. My comment was on only how they do it half-assed. I agree with the stupid user clicking on a bad link and all the sudden you have a rampant virus spreading throughout the environment. What sucks though is that it also effects the clued user who just wants to be able to access his/her personal email while connected to the work network. Smartphones are good for this, but then you get links and .pdfs and other stuff inside emails where only a full-blown computer is going to be of assistance.
I know, “I should be working.” But just trying to stop me from doing something is only going to make me overcome that block. And even the fastest 3G aircard, is a big old pain in the butt when you want to do some personal surfing. Especially when your in a building that has crappy service indoors. To be honest, a webproxy over an SSH tunnel isn’t much better - SLOW AS A DOG. Even with Upenn and Penn State ssh shells.

Does anyone else beside me have serious issues when trying to access this site from a blackberry (8310 if it matters)?
Anytime I try to connect to this site from by bb it tries running a script which totally slows down my bb and causes an hour glass to appear and reappear even though the internet is closed.
