AT&T offically blocks access to BGR, game on!

Alright AT&Tizzle, you won. You’ve blocked people from accessing BGR on your network (unless they are pretty high up), so we’re blocking you. That’s right. All the higher-ups will no longer be able to surf BGR. They’ll have to resort to viewing our scoops on the thousands of sites that pick them up. It was fun while it lasted, but we have a feeling you’ll miss us a lot more than we’ll miss you.

UPDATE: Looks like we’re frandz again. AT&T has removed the block on BGR! Thanks, tipsters!

So,…Who’s Wheaties did you piss in this morning Boy Genius?? J/K It’s like you wake up expecting to get your usual Bran Muffin and coffee and then to see that must just put a damper on your day. It must be a sign that the apocalypse is upon us or something thats what I figure.

So when do we get the petition from you to “MAKE” AT&T put you back on? Oh wait screw that, we don’t need no stinkin badges!!

Lame effort BG, to appear as though you aren’t an AT&T and Apple fanboy! For this, the executives will probably make you wash their cars today and disable your iPhone for a couple hours.

Wow… that is a terrible act of censorship on the part of AT&T. Abusing powers to directly conflict with freedom of speech? They really need to get over themselves.

You should auto-link all instances of keyword “AT&T” on BGR to RickRoll, TubGirl, Goatse or something else indescribably terrible.

How exactly can you block At&ts higher ups from viewing this site? Couldn’t they just use their iphones to snoop around these pages?

Is that even legal? Sounds like abuse to me.

What is their basis for doing so? I mean what are they accusing you of? Excessively promoting their products? :-)

Isn’t this censoring the internet? I don’t see how this is legal.

Hey, you might have a lawsuit.

They cannot make the decision to censor the internet from paying customers. CLASS ACTION!

Their auto-censoring software probably simply keyed off the “boy” part of http://www.boygeniusreport.com

Corporations selectively block internet sites all the time.

Free speech? I think a company can block whatever they like. If you worked for them you could quit. Otherwise wait until you get home to surf whatever you want. Not only that but they probably just subscribe to a service that updates their firewall or proxy or whatever with sites that it determines are not work appropriate, sometimes they are wrong.

Man, some of you are kind of dense. They are censoring their internal corporate network (only their employees at work), not their consumer network.

The company pays for the computers, the internet, etc. They pay the people using them, they can block whatever they want. Besides, pretty sure the post is just a poke at humor. Lighten up all of you “OMG….CENSORSHIP!!!” Chicken Little’s.

Gauntlet - more likely they keyed the word “Genius”. They don’t want any of their staff looking at sites that may make them feel intellectually stimulated.

Hell, AT&T’s network probably can’t handle your site anyway!

If its internal corporate block that just means all their employees must surf BGR all day rather than “working”. No wonder you can never get good customer support from AT&T. Their customer support is getting, if not already, as bad as Sprint!

Yup I’m on VZW, I like to be able to make phone calls…AT&T sucks that’s why left them and will never go back…even for the almighty iPhone. I’d rather use my 1990 Moto Startac on a reliable network than fall for AT&T gimmicks. Perhaps they have a deal with Apple to start chrging their customers to access BGR?

BTW does AT&T own Apple or the other way around…you know its only a matter of time!!

Well, I’ll be damned. I work for AT&T, and the site was working like two days ago. What you can’t see at the bottom of the screen is a little button that says “Submit request” to have the page unblocked.

Let’s see if they listen, eh?

Although this is limited to their internal corporate network, which AT&T owns and has the right to limit the content that is contained on it, blocking a web site of this caliber can have the opposite effect. I’m going to assume they are blocking this site for one of 2 reasons:

    1. As Gauntlet stated above, they could have keyed on the “boy” in boygeniusreport.

    2. They are blocking a site that has a lot of inside scoops and perhaps a way to limit employees from posting comments. We all know Apple would do this, so I would not doubt they have a hand. This would leave external email/sources as the only way to post items. AT&T may want to control what scoops from the AT&T world are on BGR, this is a start to that

I wonder if some of the other exclusive mobile sites are blocked?

Either way, blocking is not the right approach, leave it open and then hold your employees accountable for their actions.

Oh and why is the Thunder moving ahead of the Bold?
