Two New Nokia Handsets to be Announced August 25th
Yep, this has Nseries event written all over it. Awkwardly secretive, selective audience, decent budget; when it comes to making bloggers feel special Nokia will always be the king. This coming Monday at 3:00 am EST Nokia will be holding a private online event that will showcase two upcoming Nokia handsets a week ahead of the official public Nokia announcement. The online shindig will will cover all the details about these two new handsets and will likely involve a couple of product managers to field some inquiries. Now we’re not betting men here at BGR but if we had to venture a guess as to which handsets will be announced it would have to be the N79 and the N85. The N79 as you recall is a bit of an ugly duckling, mildly reminiscent of the N82. Specs are pretty much unknown at this point beyond a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, a 5 megapixel camera and Feature Pack 2. The N85 on the other hand, is pretty much an open book at this point after having passed through the FCC recently. Tri-band WCDMA, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, integrated FM Transmitter and GPS and dual-slide form factor a la N95 cover the highlights. We’d like to think that the 5800 XpressMusic might be announced in place of one of the aforementioned handsets but it’s likely not in the cards. Some day…

Man i’m excited its been a while since we got official word on new Nseries’s, this whole year its been the N78 and N96 which has’t even released btw loll man nokia made a mojor mistake with the N96 its not right man….people are sick of waiting, well hopefully lets see if they can makeup for it here but i’m curoius and the mini N96, the N85 what exactly is this gonna be???

Correct CanisMinor. The ‘private’ online event will be held on August 18th, one week before the official announcement on August 25th.
I kinda like the design of N79 actually. Anyways i would really like to see 5800(tube) already to get announced.
N85 and N79 are good solid phones to Nokia’s portfolio most probally(N85 will kill the small market that N96 had), but i want something to replace my N95.
That’s interesting that Nokia likes to go a more selective route in promoting new handsets. After the huge buzz over the iPhone, it’s kind of refreshing.
18th pvt event and 25th is public event for these phones.
So, how many of their phones do I have to have before I can get in on this event??? I have at least 7 phones right now but they’re all old (including: 7610, 7280, 6010, 6030, 6600, 3600, 3220).
Hope this isnt a typical Nokia “announcement” where they tell us about a phone with lots of cool features that wont be available to the public for at least another 6 months by which time several other devices have been released by other manufacturers. This happened with the N95, the N82 the N96 and even the much hyped “Tube” phone which now appears to be a toned down version of an N series device.
I like Nokia phones and use an N95 8GB – just give me the same device but with half the bulk and a better screen and i will be happy.
