Sprint’s ‘08-’09 roadmap: BlackBerry 8350i, Motorola i576, Motorola i950, and a lot more!

What would the world do without BGR? Well, you’d probably have a lot less broken AVAYA phones, less screaming, and just all around happier wireless executives. Oh well. We just got our hands on Sprint’s ‘08-’09 roadmap, and there are definitely some goodies in here if you are a current Sprint subscriber. First up is the BlackBerry 8350i. That’s right Nextel-lovers, you’ve got a new phone to play with coming soon! Contrary to other online images of the device, it appears this BlackBerry does not have the hideous external antenna. The BlackBerry 8350i will have Wi-Fi, a 2 megapixel camera, GPS, and run OS 4.6 out of the box! Look for a Q4 release on that bad boy. For the rest of the goods including more lack-luster phones than you can count, hit the jump folks!

As you can see, the BlackBerry 8350i is based on the Curve (obviously), but you’ve got to love that internal antenna now. Wi-Fi and GPS make this the dream Berry for Nextel users. Also, you’ll be able to grab a camera-less version of the 8350i so you can play nice in restricted areas. Holla!

Let’s break down the roadmap a bit:
- The first that looks to be coming out is the Motorola i950
- Launching in early Q4, there’s the Motorola i576 and the Motorola i776
- In mid-to-late Q4 there’s the BlackBerry 8350i
- Coming up around Jan-Feb, we’ve got the Motorola “Monolith” which is some sort of entry-level SureType-type device, what looks to be a Motorola V8-type phone, and a Sanyo iDEN/GSM handset
- Later on in Q2, there’s a Samsung music slider phone, a military-spec “Immersion” phone by Motorola, and the Sanyo Pro410.
Here are the super-large handset images, followed by a couple more slides…

Folks, this posting is for Nextel Direct Connect (NDC) and iDEN, so please don’t look for it to cover HTC, Palm, etc as they don’t have PTT products. I know the author did not title it properly, but the documentation shown is for PTT devices only. There are pleny of other goodies coming for non-Nexel.
Sprint wanted to get the Blackberry built ASAP, and adding CDMA would delay it, so 1/2 the folks will whine it doesn’t have fast web, and the other 1/2 will be enjoying a new BB with a sharp screen, hi res cam, GPS, full keyboard, and WiFi. If Sprint waited for a hybrid or Q-chat version, they would likely lose another 2 million subs. This will be a hot seller, and excellent retention phone.
The charts shown display, to those who want to through stones, that Sprint is serious about Nextel, and has creative choices on the way, some soon, some a few months away. For those that remember, how many iDEN handsets did Nextel launch per year in the past? 3-4? I count 10 in the next six months, and that doesn’t include the 2 Sanyos, 1 LG, and 1 Samsung already launched this summer. 14 new handsets in less than a year; next complaint will be there are too many choices.
Burt, the answer is no, the 8350i is straight iDEN for all voice and data services, and WiFi where available for web.

take your walkie talkie calls off of speaker and look into the new plans that cover mobile 2 mobile for free on Nextel phones.

So I guess you did not know about the (quite obvious) feature of turning off the speaker and putting the phone to your ear so it is exactly like a phone call, only nextel direct?

It has been officially announced today on the wall street site by Nextel that the 8350i will definitely be out by yearend. Go to finance on aol.

I hope this is a hybrid phone with EvDO,cause if it isn’t Sprint just wasted a whole LOT of money for nothing.
Why would you put this “new” phone out if it doesn’t have hybrid and the EvDO?? Real dumb asses.

the plan you make referrence to is the breakthrough 10000. N&W started @ 9 and you only had 1000 peak minutes. the actual details broke down as 1000 peak (anytime) minutes, 5000 n&w minutes @ 4000 DC minutes. NDC was not included with this plan neither was mobile to mobile. the only plan that comes close to that now (only better IMO) is the biz essentials 1000 59.99

You don’t have to chirp on the speaker. All nextel phones have chirp through the earpeice. If you were chirping out loud it’s b/c you didn’t know to turn the speaker off.
The new blackberry is the SH!! how much is it??????!!!

We have a family share plan with Sprint/Nextel. 99 bux/month for unlimited M/M, unlimited PTT, unlimited Text, nights and weekends free after 7pm, plus 1500 minutes mobile daytime minutes. I added my two sons for just 9.99 per each phone per month. They share the 1500 minutes with my husband’s phone. They have yet to come close to using their minutes. Great deal!

i dont know what everyone is talking about… no unlimited talking? i have the Blackberry everything 900 and i have unlimited talk, txt, internet, Telenav GPS. all for 89.99, if you talk or text as much as i do, its worth it.
i cant stand not being connected. yes everyone is correct the iDEN network sucks for data transfer speeds even on my 7100i, and i can not wait for the 8350i. i got a hard on just waiting for it LMAO

Sprint/Nextel do have plans that include free M2M now. Or if you have an old plan that you feel is better then what is out there today you can add M2M for $5/month/line.

JUST A FYI IN REPLIES TO HUSKYFANS COMMENT. AS EVERYONE HAS NOW STATED ALL THEIR PLANS INCLUDE MTM, BUT IF THEY STILL DID NOT YOUR CONVERSATION DOES NOT AVE TO BE PUBLIC ON THE WALKIE TALKIE FEATURE. WHEN YOUR ON CALL WITH THE WALKIE TALKIE JUST HIT YOUR SPEAKERPHONE KEY AND THEN YOUR WALKIE TALKIE CONVERSATION WILL NOW BE JUST LIKE HAVING A CELLULAR CONVERSATION (0:
ALSO IN REGARDS TO H.N.IC.’S COMMENT WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU EVEN WANNA PAY $59.99 A MONTH FOR 10,000 MINUTES PLUS PAY FOR ALL YOUR ADD ONS WHEN YOU CAN PAY $40 MORE AND HAVE UNLIMITED EVERYTHING! LITERALY! MINUTES TXT PICMAIL INTERNET THE WORKS! PLUS NOW YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PLAN AT ANYTIME YOU WANT WITHOUT EXTENDING YOUR CONTRACT. NO ON ELSE OFFERS THAT

Whats the deal with Sprint and the Hybrids anyway…why do we continue to get teased with these new phones that always lack something the last model had or one that i want. Aww Sit! i said with the Curve 8350i, but not a hybrid so cant get it for my plan and its not international and i mean GSM…BTW the measley Sanyo 8400 HAD EVERYTHING!!…except gsm.

Ummm, Nextel never had 10,000 minutes for $59.99, I assume you talking about the NExtel National Breakthrough 10,000 priced at $54.99. It had 1000 anytime minutes, 4000 direct connect minutes, and 5000 nights and weekends. Very old plan they haven’t had that since 2002. The nice thing that Nextel did was conf\vert all the limited nights and weekends to Unlimited. OUt of the major competitiors Nextel/Sprint has the best new current plans. Compare and see.

Why does everyone think that Nextel Direct Connect is so annoying? The only thing that’s annoying are ignorant people who don’t use Direct Connect on silent in public!!! You can just hold it to your head like a normal phone idiots!!! It’s just as annoying as ANYONE on ANY CARRIER on speaker phone in public!!!
