Sidekick Slide gets the boot from T-Mobile’s lineup

Likely due to the recent introduction of the oh-so-mediocre Sidekick 2008, the Sidekick Slide appears to have been unceremoniously removed from T-Mobile’s catalog. Online stock is completely depleted, with stores selling off their limited inventory to the final few customers that are foolish fast enough to get there in time. The Slide was Motorola’s first entry into the Sidekick world, and was plagued with problems from launch. While this handset was by no means one of Moto’s biggest sellers, it can’t help the ailing company’s bottom line or morale. Sad, as despite it’s myriad flaws we kinda liked to odd little bugger. Just don’t expect anymore Motorola Sidekicks. We think Danger is going to stick with Sharp, a proven manufacturer for their Sidekick line for a pretty long while.

Its a damn shame how far the Sidekick brand has fallen. Feels like yesterday I was proudly rocking my Sidekick II along with my BB.

Wouldn’t that be “We think *Microsoft* is going to stick with Sharp …”, as MS bought Danger a few months ago…

I personally love my Slide. Despite the problems there was with it BEFORE THE RECALL, mine is fine because I got one monthes after the recall lol. The Slide is not plauged with problems because I’ve owned mine for 4 monthes and I’ve never had one problem. IMO, T-Mobile didnt market this sidekick good at all so Im not surprised to see it has stopped selling. And the fact since the Sidekick 2008 is out, I pretty much saw this coming. Either way, I think the Slide was a good try for motorola but I dont see them making another one lol. Anywayz, Im waiting for a Sidekick with 3G capabilities to come out. And to the iPhone Fanboys out there: I DO NOT WANT A IPHONE 3G. Different story if it was on T-Mobile though lol!

    QUESTION****
My sidekick slide had some problems with the software… Tmo told me to send it back so they can send me a new phone… WHAT IF: I wait a week to send it in… would there be a possibility they dont have the slide and will send me a sidekick 2008?

    puzzled says:

Even though TMO has stopped sales on the slide, if yours is defective they still have refurbished models available for exchange. The only way to get a different one is to either upgrade, ask for an alternate exchange, or go through a process of 3 exchanges in 90 days where they will give you a whole different phone. Or if the 3 exchanges are done in that 90 days and you are just fed up, you can opt out of your contract with no ETF.

I am so glad to see this phone go away. For every 3 we sold, one came back with the same slide-and-it-turns-off problem, and this was post recall. And I have a feeling the other 2 had problems, just people dealt with it. Moto sucks.

Well i have a slide, and it does shut off sometimes without warning and now some of the keys act funny when u press them. I have go on the internet cause everytime i push the . button it types C@ . and trys to go to the site. If i push l or del a bunch of numbers and letters come up and if i push the volume button it travels up the menu instead of putting the volume up or down. Im gonna try the sidekick 08 next month if i have problems with that im giving up on sidekicks forever!!!!

My sidekick slide has different periods of time where it acts up. But recently its been shutting off everytime my 2gb card is inserted. Whenever it is inserted, all my music will not load, as well as my mem card photos. I don’t have insurance on my phone. Will they still replace phones without insurance?
