BlackBerry Thunder gets 9530 model designation on Verizon, October 13th release date?

We just got a screen cap of the product inventory screen from a Verizon tipster. It shows that the BlackBerry Thunder, which we’ve all been reporting as a 9500-series device is correct. The specfic model — you guessed it — is the BlackBerry 9530 for Verizon. Would it be any other way? We were also told the launch date on Verizon is October 13th, and that coincides with our previously leaked info just marvelously. Now, is it the Thunder or Storm?

Does anyone know if this will be Rev A or still Rev 0?

Hmm… Based on the words you use I assume you work for at&t. Lets take a look at how ignorant you are.
You said:
“Who cares if ATT has an infatuation with IPhone…as well as they should be…its one of the best devices ever conceived and has done wonders for their image as the best carrier on the market. But to limit yourself to just Verizon is just asinine IMO”
Your statement above makes you look like an idiot. You are bragging how the iphone, which is exclusive to At&t in the us, has helped At&t’s success. You then say it asinine for a manufacturer to limit it’s self to one carrier. So, can you please clarify? Are you saying it was asinine for Apple to limit itself to one carrier?
You also said:
“ATT and TMo allows our customers the ability to take their BBs overseas and roam and conduct their business worldwide.”
What’s your point with this statement? Verizon sells a blackberry that allows their customers the ability to roam and conduct their business worldwide in over 170 countries.
To help you in the future, please do some research before you post. Thanks.

Now that I have you attention: Oct 13 is not a lock date, it is a target date. As with anything it is likely to change BUT know that its hoping to be pushed out the door and the VZW will not be “sitting” on this phone for the heck of it…when they feel its ready, it will go out

Hopefully VZ does not put their crappy custom firmware on this, then maybe I’ll come back.

50 bucks says that BGR is wrong about the Oct 13 release date. When Oct comes around, the BGR will be posting articles about “the severely delayed Thunder”.

not true the device is both CDMA and GSM capable, now if the North American bands will be locked from using on GSM is a whole other story.
Device will defiantly work on European GSM bands like the 8830.

The delivery date must be soon as Verizon has dropped prices on ALL current BB devices in the last couple days! Can’t wait

Yes…I do work for ATT, yes I do think it’s asinine for manufacturs to limit their base. Why wouldn’t Apple expand to TMo and get their 15-20 million customers, why not go Verizon and grab their 50 million customers (and whatever Alltel has). Its like a videogame maker only creating a game for just one console. Why limit to just one base when your product will sell to everybody. I don’t see how it makes me look like an ‘idiot’. It’s fine to have a period of exclusivity but then it needs to be available elsewhere.
Also, I was under the impression that CDMA is only available in 35 international countries and US territories unlike GSM that is available in over 170 countries. Would you like the link to Verizon’s own International Roaming page?

thanks for the tip My Cube aka Kevin Byrne
. Saw your post over at HoFo. Would have been nice if BGR linked to the original post and gave you credit.

Really, people do that all the time. And console game exclusives have been around FOREVER. Ever heard of Mario? Sonic? Halo? Metal Gear Solid? Metriod? + hundreds of other games.
You lose more and more credibility every time you say something. If I were you I’d stop.

I guess to clarify since it looks like I need to do ‘research’. I do know that VZ’s BB come with dual service.

Oh well…I admit, I am a bent out of shape RIM fan that can’t get the Thunder at launch. I won’t go to Verizon for the phone. Verizon where I live is worse that TMo coverage. I’ll wait until it arrives in either TMo or ATT. I am not a ATT die hard since my wife works at Tmobile as well, as did I at one point.
Oh well…score one for CDMA. For now I have to settle for the Kickstart and Bold. I should have the Kickstart in my hand in about a week.

As a enterprise manager of a BB network, composed of over 500 BB devices, i will be the first to tell you.
NO T-Mobil? No biz.
Flat and simply put, TM is one of the BEST carriers to work with on a Biz side. Personal use, well you can go suck AT&T for that ride, but never ever will we move to Verizon just to have this phone. We will wait. And so will our 500 users.
Not a big deal…

If this is the Thunder, then it’s indicative of RIM’s inability to manage its own information. Add this to what is clearly a “me, too” device, and well, that’s a recipe for disaster.
This phone is a ail. RIM should stick with what they know. . .making great devices that revolve around a physical keyboard. I mean, what’s the point of having a large screen with no video content and a weak browser? And what kind of RIM fan buys this phone? Aren’t you kind of admitting you’d like to have an iPhone like device, but either can’t stand Apple or have some other objection to getting the real thing? Seriously. . .of all the complaints on this board, if you took the iPhone an slapped “BlackBerry” on it (which is what the Thunder is, minus the sotware, sleek hardware

Obviously you are cheap and so is your company. TMO is one of the slowest and smallest networks in the US market. However, you do get a ton of minutes for nothing…perhaps because you can never use those minutes because you can’t get a signal.
Sorry Gman, I’m not buying it!

Lets see, the Thunder as well as many other older Blackberrys do support video. And correct me if I’m wrong but RIM did team up with the same folks that help develope the iPhone web browser. You can bet this phone will be awesome. RIM is going to show Apple how to create a text friendly touchscreen…mark my words. RIM has been working on this long before the iPhone was ever conceived.
By your comments I take it you have never owned a Blackberry.

Wow. Does anyone want this phone?
RIMM fans won’t want it because it won’t have a real keyboard.
Anyone else who would want a phone like this will just buy the iPhone unless this one is significantly cheaper (which I seriously doubt)
So, where does that leave the Thunder? With no buyers.

I am not talking about first party games. I’m mainly talking about third party games. Metal Gear Solid? Credibility? Lets be real here, it’s not first party and Konami have released their games on other platforms. Obviously your not going to have your mascots on other platforms, sans SEGA. I’m strictly referring to third party. Sorry if that wasn’t spelled out correctly. Your seeing alot less third party exclusives and I think that’s healthy for the industry.
Publishers are seeing how ridiculous it is to keep the games on one platform. Like Soul Calibur III was PS2 exclusive and the title was hurt overall. Issue resolved with SC IV. Final Fantasy, the largest videogame brand arguably world wide is back to being published on other platforms. If it makes dollars, it makes sense. Restricting your properties restricts your revenue, thus; doesn’t make sense. Apple has the contract with ATT until 2010, I just hope I don’t have to wait 3-4 years for a touchscreen BB that isn’t jailbroke.
@ USA
The phone overall blows pretty hard, but the LG VU Tv in my opinion has a great touchscreen for texting. Its responsive and your able to toggle between QWERTY and traditional. If the BB Thunder somewhat emulates that model for texting, I think that’ll be cool. Of course I have faith that RIM will enhance it better.

RIM has been talking for a couple of years about making carrier specific devices. This way they build RIM/Carrier loyalty and differentiate their product line.

I love when someone like you doesn’t know when to stop posting. You are making yourself look even more like an idiot. It makes me sick that someone like you is probably a low level sales person at at&t and you mislead customers with your ignorance.
I predict you will now reply with another dumb comment. So please don’t let us down.

Jesse,
According to a RIM rep I spoke with a few weeks ago Verizon Wireless is now their largest US carrier. Add in the purchase of Alltel, making VZW the largest US carrier, and the fact that VZW is 45% owned by Vodaphone, who also has the exclusive. Something tells me they won’t be upset that AT&T is not in the loop.

You are trying to hard to sound like an expert on a subject matter you’re not an expert in. I am not jumping on the banwagon calling you an idiot. I hope you know that working for ATT or Tmobile doesn’t makes you any type of CDMA expert and leave the marketing to the experts. Its safe to say that you didn’t go to school for marketing because if you did you wouldn’t be working for ATT and you seemed to be a little clueless with the marketing side of things.
Ps I heared that ATT employee plans are piss ass poor and that is cheaper going with a standard Tmobile plan then getting an Att employee one so I hope you got hooked up under you wifes account.
