And the Award for Lamest iPhone App Goes to…

Are you an iPhone developer who wants to make some serious cash? Write an app that identifies people who have purchased “I Am Rich” and then integrate with Google Maps to display their exact locations*. Developer Armin Heinrich (and we hesitate to call him a “developer”) has made his mark on Apple App Store history by creating what is undoubtedly the most ridiculous application in mobile phone history. In fact, if Heinrich makes even a single sale with the app we would say that society has collectively failed. What does “I Am Rich” do exactly? Nothing. It’s a $1,000 app that is intended to be a status symbol; it sits on your phone and displays the odd image shown above when you open it. Doesn’t quite have the same effect as, say, a nice watch or a Vertu. We would say that this is simply a great publicity stunt but the developer doesn’t have much else to show in the App Store. In fact, Heinrich’s only other App Store app at the moment is a $5 calculator with a $0.10 UI.

*BGR does not in any way condone violence… Unless it results in the removal of “I Am Rich” from someone’s iPhone.

    iPhone Sheep Unite says:

    This will probably fail.

    Now if you slap an Apple logo on it and change the developer’s name to Steve Jobs you will have a hit. All Apple users will praise Steve for his inventiveness and creativity.

    the exact location in Google Maps is rather handy so you know what idiots are walking around with brand new 3G iPhones and wads of cash, so you can rob them.

    go to their itunes and copy the app over.

    that is assuming u know someone who has this utterly ridiculous app.

    i bet he’s hoping that rich heiresses who have iPhones now will want it to be exclusive.

    Well, this app may be stupid but every tech blog has covered it in the past 12 hours. So someone is going to be tempted to buy just because of all the curiousity. The person who made it is smart. All it takes is one person to buy it to get his money back and to make a little profit.

    Besides look how much this was covered already by other sites.

    I saw this on a forum & on my iphone as well. Whats really sad is on of the reviews points out someone who apparently did click on it as a joke & ended up paying for it with this credit card which refuses to reimburse him. LOL

    I don’t know how many did the same but I complained this morning to Apple (using the app store link provided for user feedback) that 1. Lots of morons who perhaps consider it good sense of humor call it awesome and award multiple stars to this app making it appear well-received by users in the rankings and 2. it is possible to accidentally buy it from iTunes since the password is saved for 1-click purchases (I presume most people do the same). I feel that the voice of at least those of us who did the same was heard by Apple.

    @Paco Loco

    Unless that person was under 13 years old anyone else who claims they bought it are probably just cluttering the review system with nonsense.

    All he has to do is get one person to download the app and that will make it worth the 10 minutes it took him to develop it. Thats some serious ROI!!
