iPhone 2.0.1 software released

We’re downloading it now, but woweee, it’s 250MB! Anyone care to comment? Even with all the languages included the biggest build we’ve ever seen was around 210MB…

Post will be updated

Ok, so far we’ve found 2.0.1 to be extremely more stable. This includes fixing the keyboard lag some users experienced, a speedier OS in general, and it seems to have fixed the god-awful contacts lag. Also we should note that applications install probably 10x faster now through iTunes. We’ve heard reports of a speedier backup as well. Good things all around. Just no copy and paste. Sad.

the unlocked iphone 2G can be updated as well!!!

but cydua and all jailbreak apps will be gone!!!

if you need cydua/jailbreak wait for the update of the pwnagetool!

if you just need the unlock just update via itunes;-) i did so 1h ago with no problems @ all besides the cydia/jailbreak thing….

the geo-location bug with East and west in europe and further east hasn’t been resolved!

there’s apps that don;t make the mistake, but camera app still writes the wrong data into the EXIF!

camera app doesn’t see when you cross the meridian… weird…

i have to manually change the negative to positive value for the longitude… bummer!

Did you just compare a Treo 750 to an iPhone 3G!? Are you out of you f-cking mind? I left the 750 like a year and half ago before switching to the Blackberry and the Treo couldn’t even hold a candle to THAT! the Blackberry can’t even hold a candle to the iPhone 3G!! Take you Treo and enjoy i b/c you clearly have never tried either a Blackberry or iphone. The moment you use either you will NEVER go back!

well I applied the backup and I can say I have seen inmpovments inteh contacts as it is now down to 1 second instead of teh 10 mentioned. Signal, I was seeing 1 or 2 bars in the same location and now it is showing almost full and at times down by 1 bar. In safari, screen flip is faster and it no longer hangs up and take time. Same sites access that used at times to stick in landscape mode is now gone. Waiting for battery and hopefully that is improved as well as need to see if it now pairs better with the car (before it has been showing double entry for each contact number under (eg. John Smith Home shows twice on the car deisplay)

After not being able to compose text messages for the last several days because of the keyboard lag I was really hoping that this update would solve it. A couple of hours into testing, however, it is clear that the keyboard lag has NOT been completely resolved.

Is anyone still having issues with the keyboard lagging dreadfully behind your typing?

Where did you find 2.0.1 firmware. I’m using a mac.
I know I can jail 2.0, but then I’d be downgrading from 2.0.1 (and to be honest, I’m happier that it got fixed[should've been like that to start with])

Really bro? The iphone has been out for less than one month and they are already releasing a software update to fix all of these bugs. I’ll keep my verizon curve outfitted with opera mini. Call me when att and apple get their network and their hardware up to par.

Ok, I did mine and messed with it for about 10 minutes and it doesn’t really feel like much of a difference to me. Unless you guys are having crashing or major lag problems I wouldn’t bother (at least not until the next JB comes out). I still get some lag switching between apps or going to different contact menus (favorites, recent, all contacts). Safari might be a little better… but barely.

Not saying the iPhone is perfect, it’s far from it. There are a lot of stupid issues and problems, but the software upgrade distribution model is NOT one of them. You’d rather wait 6-12 months for an OS update (if you’re lucky) than get one no more than 3-4 weeks after the phone launched? Ok, buddy. You do that.

I talked to an apple rep who told me that the “updates” are actually a full OS overwrite. Apple doesn’t write patches for the iphone, but rather does a full OS reload every time they make a change, that’s why the “updates” have only grown over time.

Amen. BTW, all you haters. What the hell does this post have to do with your Treo’s or Blackberrys. You Verizon folks need not even try and boast about your BB Curves that are a year late to the party and locked down GPS.

How you can fault a company for pushing out fast updates is beyond me. Go back to WM and wait two years between releases and STILL not have a fast, stable, half-way usable system.

I appreciate when BG smacks the knuckleheads. Honestly, anyone who comes in here boasting about a Treo or Opera Mini on a Curve has obviously not experienced Safari on the iPhone. There is much more to it then that but when that dude said he’ll stick with his Treo and WM OS I spewed my soda on the keyboard.

I’m with keymaker - i’m still suffering with a severe lag everytime i load my contacts, they are visible straight away, but locked, so i cant scroll or begin a search for a good 10-15 seconds. Haven’t really noticed any improvements with 2.0.1

Upgrade 3G iPhone, notice NO change. Address book still has 3 - 5 second delay, very frustrating after a year of crisp performance on original iPhone and 1.1.4 FW. Still having hard time switching between Edge, 3G and Wifi, things take many seconds to get going.

I guess we wait for real performance and cut and paste….

    Updated last night.

Less keyboard lag(less is the keyword), but still getting random crashes on Safari. It’s getting old.

I installed the update and the contacts did speed up, but after 12 hours they slowed down again, there is an improvement but not like ti was when I first installed the update.

Also I found a weird bug, if you have a phone number that has a pause in it, i.e. dialing an extension after the phone number, the phone will not call that number at all. I have tried in Contacts to call it, setting it as a favorite, everything, you push the number and it just sits there. Weird bug.

But I love my phone, I am a BB convert and its great.
