Colorware announces iPhone 3G customization

We’re pretty big fans of Colorware’s excellent customization service here at BGR, so you can imagine our delight when they gave us the heads up this morning. Coloware has just announced that their patented coloration process is now available for the iPhone 3G. Their custom design studio allows you to apply a unique combination of any of 35 different colors to your shiny new iPhone. Unlike many of their other offerings, you won’t be able to purchase a handset directly from them, but their send-in-and-wait service is reliable and relatively quick. The process will run you between $150 and $210, depending on options. Any takers? Yeah, we thought so. In other news, Colorware is launching a “rich and famous” line of products, catering directly to VIPs of all sorts. No word on specifics there, but the service will apparently be available as a multi-tiered offering, though without any more information we’re at a bit of a loss on this one. Oh well…we’ll have a shiny blue BGR iPhone 3G to tide us over until they spill the beans.

With the back being plastic now, wouldn’t it be much much cheaper to just wait for the inevitable Chinese knockoff replacement backs that will show up on eBay in a few days? I’m guessing $10+$10 shipping.

I went through and customized my iPhone 3G to my liking and got up to a $210 total price. I don’t like the fact that you have to color the back btw… I already have my back the color I want it. When I saw the 2 week shipping completion time I quickly pressed cancel and began to think of other solutions… Not to say I won’t be doing this, just not right at this moment.

Does this process protect against cracks? If so, sign me up. LOL.

Considering Apple’s repsonse to complaints, it looks like this will probably be a good solution for cracking white iPhones.

hmm, just spoke with their chat people, something of interest is that when you paint the back you would lose the apple logo, you can either opt for the colorware “hand” logo or nothing at all…

I bought a ipod nano from Colorware and the color chipped away around the corners after a month or so. And the most extreme activity I used it for was pulling weeds in the garden.
