T-Mobile 3G launches on October 1st, officially…kind of
This one has been rumored for quite a while, but if a small piece of paper taped to the window if a T-Mobile store is to be believed, we now have semi-official confirmation that the carrier will be flipping the switch on its 3G network on October 1st. The high-speed data network should go live in 27 of T-Mobile’s most populated markets, which is good news for anyone that’s growing a bit tired of their lowly EDGE connection (read: everyone). The carrier has been testing its 3G network in New York over the last several months, though we’re not aware of any similar tests in any other markets. Whatever the case, lets hope that they pull this off in conjunction with the release of some hot new handsets, as their current crop of 3G-capable phones is, well, awful.
Ill believe it when I see the 3G pigs flying around Chitown.
Any word on the tariff for this? Will I be able to hop on with my existing $20/month unlimited plan which includes tethering?!?!
Currently atless in the new york market there is no extra cost for using 3g vs edge as modem. Now who’s to say that this will never change.
Its make sence that 3g will be release in the 4th quater. Since the android based google phone is still on schedule to be released later this year.

yeah I know the pheonix area gets it in october im hoping they have a usb aircard for it and rim makes a bold model using the 1700mhz frequency
its about time. although ive been using t-mobile 3G in nyc for about a month with my nokia 6263. average 1.2mbps on the downloads.
based on my conversations with a tmo rep last week, seems like bold will be available on tmobile.
when i asked about any new smartphones coming soon, i was told “they will but after 3g coz there’s no point in introducing a new smartphone now, like bold with 3g, when 3g hasn’t been launched yet”.
Does that mesn that i will be able to use my unlocked 3g iPhone on tmobile.
Finally. I have been waiting for a while. I have many 3G phones. I will be able to test it out on my Samsung F480 in October. Wait, I will be NYC in 2 weeks, I can test it out there. T-Mo needs NEW 3G PHONES!!!! Time to catch up to the rest of the world.

too bad they dont have 3g for the sidekick line … but using edge aint bad. Wifi and 3g is coming like next year or the year after that …

What’s so great about 3G anyway? Folks who are using it on AT&T and their iPhone 3G can only surf that web for like 2 hours before having to recharge. Such a shame, really.
T-Mobile reps are hinting at a Bold release sometime this year. I wonder if AT&T screwed up its exclusivity by delaying their release, thus coinciding with the subsequent North American market releases.

the tm506 will not be t-mobile’s flagship 3G device. that title is gonna do the HTC dream. but you’re right it will be mid-range
