Best. iPhone. Application. Ever.
Everyone’s talking about NetShare, a new application that just hit the App Store but was subsequently pulled very shortly after. It created a Wi-Fi hotspot on the iPhone, allowing your computer or other devices to use that oh-so-precious 3G connect without AT&T’s approval. But, I’d like to put you on to what possibly could be the best iPhone application ever. That’s right. It’s called Teleport. It’s fairly new, but you know BG can’t resist trying all the VNC applications! It’s priced currently at $24.95, and while that might be a little steep, it offers the absolute best VNC experience on the iPhone. Scratch that. It offers the best VNC experience on any mobile device, ever. Even better than GotoMyPC’s Windows Mobile client which was a little sexy. The fantastic part about Teleport is that it’s a monster even on an EDGE connection. It optimizes the displayed images accurately, not making you wait for the whole screen to load when you’re zoomed into a particular section, and so on. It will even show you any VNC-capable computers on your network when you’re over Wi-Fi. We’ve been playing around with this thing straight for hours, and so far, we haven’t experienced any crashes (unlike, ahem, Mocha), and we’re honestly thrilled. Anyone else give this thing a go? And yes, it does work with PCs as well, provided you use a VNC server like RealVNC or something. Setup a little DynDns.org action if you don’t have a static IP address (suckers), and you’re good to go. Just never try and access http://www.boygeniussecretcomputer.com:5900 with a password of “blogking” ok? Promise?

Would you say the $25 dollar price tag is worth it for the casual VNC user as compared to the free mocha?
That’s tough… really casual? If so, no. If you’re really using VNC a lot and find Mocha to be very slow, then definitely!
VNC = “Virtual Networking Connection”
YO!! It comes down to, EITHER YOU NEED IT OR YOU DON’T!
NOT SURE, TRY MOCHA, REALIZE YOU MIGHT…TRY TELEPORT…
DONT BITCH, YOU GOT THE FACTS AND PRICING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YA….STuupid!
VNC is Virtual Network Computing you doof. Also it doesn’t come down to need it or don’t. If I need to access something on my computer on a rare occasion once a month, then Mocha Lite is probably satisfactory from the looks of things. If I am a road warrior business type user than Teleport looks like the application for me. I had the facts and asked a simple question, nor was I “bitching” about the price, as a lot of times you get what you pay for. You are a moron and should check your own facts and read, before spouting off.
All I really want is an ssh client.
It’s gone from iTunes. Guess it was too good to be true and ATT probably got pissed off. Does it still work for those who got it before it vanished?

It is all things to all people.
In this instance, not really.

Wow. Let’s see all those iPhone killers (Instinct, I’m look at you) do this.
It’s still in the apps store. It’s Netshare that was removed.
FYI, this program has an unreported bug that no one seems to have mentioned and is not listed on their support site either. Some users are having issues with their screens not refreshing at all on the Teleport/iphone screen. You can see the mouse movements, but the screen never changes from whatever was on it when you first VPN into your desktop. I am not sure if this issue is isolated to only Mac users, but I am running OSX 10.5.4.
I emailed them and they have acknowledged that many users have experienced the same issue and that they are trying to resolve it by the next update (hopefully next few days). In the meantime, I hope they spend my 24.99 well, cuz it is unusable for me at the moment.
Then jailbreak and use Cydia to install Terminal and SSH on your phone. Done. No AppStore, no $$$. Just done.
As for Teleport… I think this may be the most expensive VNC client EVER, regardless of client platform. It may be the hottest thing since sliced bread, but I’m not paying $25 for it.
Congratulations. You just won the MUPOD (Most Useful Post Of the Day) award!

I have gone to dyndns.org and set up a free account. I am not sure what to do from there to get it to connect to my windows laptop. A little help please.
@Bill Taroli: So what, you write free software for iPhones? Do you really think anyone here care what you’ll pay for and what you won’t? You sound like my grandfather. “I’m not paying for a bottle of water” “I’m not spending $50 for a pair of pants”… blah blah. Who cares?
“Then jailbreak and use Cydia to install Terminal and SSH on your phone. Done. No AppStore, no $$$. Just done.”
Yep. Right up until the next update kills it. The you can wait for another hacked version and reload everything all over again.
Does this mean if I have slingbox on my computer I can now watch it on my iphone? If so, is that still the case no matter where I am, so long as i have a 3g connection?
How is the teleport security? Is it secure? And does your mac have to be on to access it (like it can’t be in sleep mode I’m guessing?)?
whats the max resolution that the app will support? I have a 30 inch monitor and mocha vnc wont do 2560×1600.
yea the mac has to be on
and no you can’t really watch video with it. it refreshed wayyyyyyy to slowly for that
but all in all it’s really cool. i’m using mocha just for kicks. if this was cheaper i’d definitely give it a try though
I have Mocha VNC and got telport the other day. I would wait for an update. This APP crashes all the time.(maybe because I’m connecting to windows?) When it does run it refreshes slowly and the way the control the moving around the screen is the exact opposite of the way the rest of iPhone apps work. Mocha VNC is the better VNC PP right now at least if you need to remote into a PC.
jailbrake your phone with the pwnage tool and download open ssh from cydia
