Mark/Space releases Missing Sync for Symbian

Here’s a bit of good news for all you Mac-toting Symbian addicts out there. Mark/Space, purveyors of the excellent Missing Sync line of software, have just announced the release of their Symbian-compatible version. The software brings Mac-tp-Symbian S60 syncing for all of your contacts, media, calendar, call log, and SMS data, allowing you to backup your phone without resorting to underhanded tactics. It also allows for proximity syncing, which automatically initiates a sync over Bluetooth whenever your handset is within 30 feet of your computer. Not bad at all. Sure, the $39.95 price tag is a bit steep, but Mark/Space has an excellent track record so we’re confident that this one should be worth the cheese.

Don’t upgrade to Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 4.0.3!

It broke and stopped working on our machines after the update on June 5, 2008. Today is July 30, 2008 and they still have no idea what’s wrong and will not refund the purchases (purchased 12/2007).

Pete at Markspace states that they are still looking into it, but after 47 emails back and forth and having us send them various dumps and logs, no luck. It was a good app while it worked but now Markspace refuses to refund the license purchases and yet can’t get it to work…

I purchased a Mac Book Pro and the sales person told me that Missing Sync would work with my phone VX6700 Verizon. He lied. I paid $60 for the software and told him it was imperative that I sync my phone with the Mac so that my court dates were scheduled. Well I have not been able to contact anyone to help my situation. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE> HELP!!!!

I am severely disappointed with this product. I had read lots of good things about Mark/Space products and to be frank, expected a much better product.

I am using Missing Sync for Symbian to sync my MacBook Pro with my Nokia N95 8GB. Though most aspects work well (syncing music, photos, videos, folders, etc), the calendar sync fails dismally - and this is perhaps the most important part. Many appointments simply don’t sync. The sync process also fails if there are more than ~200 appointments (delivering a “memory full” error on my N95 - trust me, the memory is not full).

There are many other options out there for syncing a Symbian phone with a Mac - for example I used to use iSync with a free program called “Proximity” and an Apple Script. This would achieve automatic syncinc of my calendar and address book when my phone came into bluetooth range of the computer. This is a feature that Missing Sync erroneously claims as unique to their product. There are other program that will manually sync.

The main reason that I put down the cash for Missing Sync was the ability to automatically sync a folder between my phone and my computer (something that for some reason, all other products lack) - this does work well, but I had assumed that I would also be able to sync via USB (my fault for not checking this thoroughly). Being only able to sync over bluetooth with 8 GB smartphone is a severe limitation. There are of course options to manually sync folders, but I would typically forget to do this.

Mark/Space was very responsive when I first contacted them for support - however, it seems that they are no longer replying to my e-mails. My interpretation is that this product was not really ready for primetime and should have been tested more thoroughly. Hopefully I can get my money back.

I have a Verizon Motorola Q phone that synced well with my PC. I have recently switched to a MacBook and have installed Mark Space, Missing Sync and it is unstable. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not. Right now not. Anyone have experience with this software and MacBook/QPhone?
    Would appreciate some advice.

mark/space works for applefanboys who want to pay and play with the toys of Apple… I am pissed off with apple, went to Dell laptops , better quality and better support!
I have ubuntu 8.10 and I can sync my nokia (s60) and my Axim x51v FOR free with my laptop.

I used the missing sync at the past (before the “switch”) the real thing was MISSING contacts from my PDA… awfull support and buggy sofware!
