New official HTC Touch Diamond ROM unlocks 850MHz band
In a move that can only be described as rather odd, it seems that the original ROM that HTC released with the initial shipment of Touch Diamond handsets disabled the phone’s support for the 850MHz band. Strange, right? It’s not all bad news, however. The company has just released a ROM update for its North American customers, unlocking the full potential of the 850MHz EDGE band for AT&T customers. Sure, this won’t bring you anything close to US 3G speeds, but with the absence of a full hardware refresh this is the next best thing. It makes the Diamond marginally more usable on our shores, and show that HTC is committed to ongoing improvement for their diminutive new touchscreen phone. We’re not sure how this is possible when an HTC employee specifically responded to our rant about the Touch Diamond not being a quad-band device, but we guess this will do for now…

I don’t see why HTC stopped putting quand-band Edge in phones anyways. Is it that much cheaper to do leave it out? HTC used to ship quad-band Edge and even tri-band 3G in the same phone…why would you want to limit sales by not including all bands?

That is an ignorant comment..
but anyway, its most likely due to the larger market everywhere else in the world. AT&T customers are not going to choose this phone over an iPhone, it’s just not profitable for them.

The Australian version of Touch Diamond will have 850 MHz 3G support for the Telstra Next G network. It is coming this mid Aug. This version should also work for AT&T network. Check out the HTC Australian site for details.

I come here for tech news, the detailed unboxings of new products, etc. It also is a very attractive site.
Let’s get back to news, not criticism of how/when/etc it is delivered.

OK, for the newbs…
BGR used to be a different type of phone enthusiasts site. They had gadgest way ahead of anyone with lots of photos and cutting edge reviews. It wasn’t a mainstream site like it has become.
The sexy girl that was always taken with the phone I believe was BGR’s girlfriend or some close aquaintance. There were also pictures of the phones taken with really expensive cars. It was different.
The site has become boring and lately, 4 days late. The crowd that used to frequent BGR have moved on to the sites that have the news that BGR seems to be leaching it from.
To say that you don’t want this site to be an XXX p0rn site, it proves you haven’t been coming here for very long, else you’d remember the old site.
I also remember when BGR got banned from other forums. Do you?
