Nokia 5800 “Tube” Poses for Some Dirty Pics
Ok seriously. If you’re going release some leaked handset shots on the internet and you know they’re going to spread like wildfire, the least you can do is hose that sucker off. Come on guys, it looks like Darryl Jenks got his hands on the Tube and Soul Glo-ed it all up. Whatever the case may be, these pics came from half way around the world so the least we can do is check them out, right? Here it is; Nokia’s upcoming mid-range 5800 XpressMusic aka Tube in all of its greasy glory. There are also some interesting additions to the specs, which currently line up as follows:
- Measurements: 111 × 52 × 14.5 mm, and weighs only 104 grams.
- 16 million color TFT LCD, 640 × 360 pixel resolution, 16:9 display mode
- Haptic feedback
- 3.2 megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics with autofocus
- Dual LED flash
- Built-in GPS
- 140 MB RAM
- GSM / GPRS / EDGE / WCDMA / HSDPA / WLAN / Bluetooth
- 3.5 mm audio jack, TV-out
- BL-5J 1150 mAh battery
All things considered, it could shape up to be a pretty hot little handset. We’re really hoping that those are some pre-release graphics though, especially on the keypad shots. It would be a shame to waste that fantastic 640 × 360 resolution on Windows 3.1-looking buttons. Hit the jump to see what we’re talking about.

Nokia has great hardware. The software backbone in actually pretty good. Great multi tasking etc. But the UI here is really 1995. It is amazing that things like nice icons, which people look at, and lack of aggressive third party involvement plague this giant. Having said that I am hoping to be proved wrong. http://www.babinokia.com has free themes for Nokia which can at least make them prettier. It is amazing that Nokia can’t do that. Embarrassing I would think.

The look of the UI definitely needs a facelift, S60 is aged and out of touch with the UI look.

I hear you on the *yawn* there, David. I mean, after taking a look at your site, if there’s one thing you know, it’s what makes something *yawn* friendly.

I wish I was Batman. The UI and icons look like the one from the E71. Does anyone else agree?
Would you rather have the power to be invisible, invincible (can only die of old age), and the ability to fly -versus- the power to teleport?

What is it with cell phone manufacturers giving that terrible multi-tap keypad when the phone isn’t in landscape mode?
It sucks and I don’t like it.

agree, the UI is bad. Nokia has some impressive devices. The N96 could benefit front a qwerty even if suretype. Currently I use an iPhone and a BB Pearl. Combo with Nokia camera would be increadible. Former Treonaut. Still not comfortable with virtual qwerty.

Nokia should just stick to Symbian as their OS. Stop trying to make a better OS cause we can all see plain as day that they suck at it. Aside from this phones’ “troubled” OS, it looks like a pretty nice phone but definitely not smartphone material…

640 × 360 … a total disappointment.
I hoped for at least a 800 x 480 display.

WVGA would be amazing, but I am totally satisfied with 640×360. It will still be enormously clear and legible and miles better than QVGA and WQVGA and it is close to VGA.

I like it, I really do. But I hope there’ll be a big deal flagship model with all kinds of goodies too. The 5800 is rather mainstream for Nokia.

That really isn’t even better than the Instinct… iphone rules supreme.

nokia’s weakness is their user interface. they need to upgrade their symbian ui or use something else.

I would really like to see someone putting some effort on making Series60 more user friendly and up to date from design point of view. It indeed looks too much like Windows 3.1. I also hope that the problem is not Series60. My professor used to say that he would be very surprised to see a new platform on Symbian, since creating an alternative for Series60 is such a massive job that even Nokia would need a very good reason for that.
Another issue of course is will there be applications that utilize the features of this particular device.

It’s a nice phone, but it’s little late compare to the iPhone 3G, even if is the same as the iPhone, why would people next year buy last year’s cell phone? discuss more @ http://www.AllNokiaTube.com
