New details emerge for Samsung BlackJack III
We’ve been hearing a lot of rumbling about this one for a while, and finally have something close to official confirmation about some specifics on the BlackJack III. The last child in the BlackJack family should be dropping on AT&T in October running a full version of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with a 3 MP camera, 528 Mhz processor, aGPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and more. Sharp readers will note that this is, in effect, a rebadged version of the Samsung i788, which is a bit odd given the BlackJack’s current WM Standard market niche, but we suppose everyone has to grow up sometime, right?

screw windows mobile professional. blackjacks have, in fact, carved out a good market share of winmo att smartphones because they are good smartphones that make good phones, not pdas with a rudimentary and poorly implemented phone system bolted on. this thing will need the integrated windows mobile 7 to make this frankenstein fly before I even think about chucking my bj II or any other standard winmo device.

It has been for sale in China and HK for several weeks (maybe months) now. It’s the i780 (not 788) and it does have a 2MP camera here (not autofocus). It’s 900/1800/1900 on GSM and 2100 on 3G. Good keyboard and feels great in the hand.
If the US version is quad-band GSM with an auto-focus camera I might take the plunge and see if I can get used to the non-traditional navigation pad/mouse.
