E71 NAM Starts Hitting Nokia Flagship Stores

In typical Nokia fashion, it looks like the E71 has quietly started to hit the shelves here in the US. According to the E71blog, the Nokia Flagship Store in Chicago has already received its first shipment of E71s and has already begun contacting those on the waiting list. Apparently only the gray version is currently in stock and there’s no word on when the white version might be available. To clarify, we are indeed talking about the US version of the E71, aka E71 NAM aka E71-2, with AT&T-compatible dual band WCDMA (850/1900MHz). US 3G indeed! We gave a call over to the NYC to see what their story was and we were informed that there would be a “launch party” on Thursday evening. Basically, if you’re on the list you’ll get a call and you can head over to the store on Thursday to wait in line for your new handset. There’s also a second list for the next shipment but we assume that any no-shows will become available to people on list number two as well. So congrats if you’re on the list; $480 and you’re on your way with one of the hottest handsets that will come out this year. Everyone else should expect other retailers to start getting shipments in the next couple of weeks.

I’ve seen this handset in person at a local tech spot called futuretronics and it looks really nice… Hopefully it is as fast as they claim it is.

Will AT&T offer a rebate without a data plan? My need is for QWERTY keyboard for text messages and occasional WIFI Internet access.

Curious, what makes this one of the “hottest handsets” as described by BGR? Its still S60, no touchscreen, QVGA resolution. Is it because it is thin? What are its other attributes?

boogalooboy: Because it IS S60 (so open with no hacking required to even do basic functions), thin form factor, hardware keyboard, high power featureset et.c. Look at the review here on BGR.

@boogalooby, the size of the device, GPS, WIFI, HSDPA, WIFI, and a super long battery life are what make this one of the hottest handsets…..Not to mention the thing looks like a german metal tank instead of the trackball/plastic nonsense RIM keeps throwing at us.

Since the Nokia E71 NAM will soon be available, I need to some objective advice. Can anyone explain the why purchasing direct from Nokia is better than waiting for AT&T to offer it with a rebate as part of a 2 year contract? Does AT&T strip out features, i.e. Nokia Maps, etc. and replace them with fee based products? Does Nokia sell it unlocked and what is the advantage of an unlocked phone? I would like to avoid purchasing the AT&T data plan. WIFI access should allow usage of many of the features without purchasing the AT&T data plan.

Time for BlackBerry Bold vs. E71 breakdown.

    That will be interesting.

    @ timberline12k,

If AT&T is going to carry this phone, you will be stuck with the $30 data plan just like the iPhone. Buying and using it unlocked/unbranded on AT&T will save you $15 since the $15 MediaNET plan is good enough for this phone.

BTW Cingular/AT&T really butchers Nokia S60 phones (N75, E62, and etc).

the 15 dollar plan is all you need for 3G access? What do you get for the 30 dollar plan you wouldn’t get with the medianet. sorry for my naivete but it seems almost too good to be true. thanks

Great news, but how hard would it be for Nokia to add the 2100 UMTS band to finally have a global phone?

Do you work for Treo? It’s a very nice phone - for a Treo. The screen resolution is not as good as the Bold. Nor is the processor. It runs Windows. Doesn’t appear to be 3G.

I can’t fathom why I’d hold off on the Bold or E71 for that Treo. but I’m open minded.

Now this is truly THE phone. It’s got everything. It’s like a Tilt, running S60, but thinner, lighter and with an LED flash(beat that Jeff B.!!!) throw in an 8GB SDHC and you’ve got a monster in your hands.

*Shaking Dice* C’mon AT&T….*shake shake* don’t murder the OS….*shake shake roll *SNAP*….damn…..snake eyes.

folks, I have this phone and i can assure you its a MONSTER! In this form factor its the best phone out there! the Nokia N82 has a better camera otherwise about the same. it kills the iphone in usability and available apps out there! I would put the media experience on top over the iphone since this E71 has radio, 3.2mp cam, mms, copy/paste, GPS WITH NOKIA OR TOMTOM OR NAVIGON ETC, and and and.. all important features iphone does NOT have!!!! I dont see why someone would wait hours for the iphone 3g and not for Nokia E71??? The E71 is years ahead!!! Of course there is room for improvement but the only company that can beat Nokia is Nokia themselves!
