I love this device. It fits my reading perfectly. Although I am completely happy with my kindle that I have had since January 2008, I would consider a new version if it has new features that make it worthwhile. The only thing that I did not like was the cover. It was uncomfortable to hold and often detached from the device. So I bought a kindle sleeve from another company and find that it works much better. All in all this is a great device that allows me to have several books to read in my library at reasonable prices. I have also used other sites to downlad classics for free. If you are an avid reader who does not want to keep shelves of books around, this is the perfect vehicle.

It is awesome … the ability to get new books anywhere, anytime … look up words on the fly, carry multiple (1000’s) of books with you wherever you go.

The ONLY drawback is its inability to show graphics well, and no color. Supposedly the 8.5×11 Kindle is targeted at the textbook market. If it can’t show sharp color images, then it’s a step back from text books, if it can show sharp, color, MOTION graphics, then it would be a phenomenal step beyond. What makes the Kindle nice to read though is the e-ink … which can’t do the color graphics. Maybe an LCD behind the e-ink? But that would be expensive.

In any case … for reading for enjoyment, the Kindle can’t be beat.

I’m also onboard with the current Kindle – bought one to try out for my last vacation & fell in love with it. I especially like the newspaper & magazine subscriptions, getting the daily papers delivered electronically was great. I’ve found a lot of free books online, have used the free convert PDF to kindle email, as well as purchased some books from Amazon (as they are the best prices by far). All in all it’s a great device if you like to read.
My only worries are taking it to the beach – I’m not worried about sand & water as much as it walking off with someone else when I’m not holding it in my hands.

Put me down as another Kindle advocate. It’s an amazing device for a first gen and IMO, worth the money. It always cost you a little to be an early adopter. I was able to get one for my Father-In-Law for Xmas last year and he liked it so much he put me in his will.

Being able to download a new release, in a few seconds, and for usually less than ten bucks is a boon. If you are a mobile person, a device like this is a must. No more lugging around books or worrying about running out of something to read while traveling.

I own one and find it very handy (especially the free web browsing).

I will probably go with a larger one as I like more screen area (I use a larger font and so am hitting advance a lot).

Once they improve the refresh rate speed, offer a sleaker package with a bigger screen and (perhaps) offer a touch screen, this is really going to take off as a mainstream technology.

I was part of the beta test and have been using the original since Oct. 07. If you read, and buy books, then the Kindle is a phenomenal device. Downloads newly purchased boods in 1-2 seconds, easy to operate. I am looking forward to seeing the newer versions.

this is pretty exciting. I always thought the kindles screen was comfortable, but you cannot beat being able to read a full page without scrolling. Also it’d be nice if they rearrange the page turning buttons(not to be accidentally hit) and get rid of that black flash when turning pages.

don’t believe the naysayers. The kindle is badass. didn’t believe it myself, until I actually got to use one. Once I did, I was hooked. Been planning on getting one. Now, I will wait.
