T-Mobile Sidekick launching July 30th, no, it’s called the Sidekick 2008

We just got a hold of some internal T-Mobile snap shots, and any Sidekick will truly appreciate them. They detail the much-rumored Sidekick Gekko, from here on out known as the… wait for it… almost there… T-Mobile Sidekick 2008! That’s it, guys. Creative name right? In all seriousness, it looks like the word about customizing the shells on the device look to be true. It’s an “entry-level” device, and as such, we reckon it won’t break the bank. Here are the official specs on the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008:
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- 2 megapixel camera
- 2.6″ WQVGA screen
- Video recording
- Stereo A2DP Bluetooth
- Standard Sidekick features
Couple more shots after the jump along with some more info!

I think the idea is that if this is mentioned as the “entry level” sidekick and the features meet or surpass the LX, we’re probably not too far from some ’super’ sidekick, wither wi-fi, 3g, or something sweet.
But you know, I only took a few logic classes in college.

This thing would have been Nice if we where in 2003 but come on T-mobile is this your answer to the Sprint instinct or to the AT&T 3G iphone or Blackberry bold, or the Verizon Dare or Voyager. I feel sorry for anyone on T-mobile network right now

In the T-Mobile phone manifest the SK 2008 is listed for $599 or $499 w/ a 2 yr contract.
IMO these prices are absurd considering how backdated the Sidekicks have become.
I will try to get a scan of the page from the manifest that I saw with the $599 price for proof.

it’s ugly (fashion wise)… neither sleek nor sexy

Ha, there will be no more sidekicks after this, less we forget Microsoft bought danger! Way to end on a high note danger RIP! We had some good years together!

I’m kind of surprised the sidekick is even still the sidekick. I’ve had T-mobile for years. Since before they were T-Mobile(usa), and I’ve been stuck with t he same phone (htc escalibur aka tmobile dash) for two years now because these idiots won’t come out with n e thing better. It’s pretty sad when even Sprints on board. C’mon tmobile…

@Christopher Cunningham:
I’m going to give you flack right now, you idiot. T-Mobile has 3G in NY right now and is rolling it out to about half the markets it covers between now and the end of the year.
You know, this year. LOL!

This is so stupid. Why bother? Get the LX or get the Slide. I love my LX but do wish it came in different colors. “Shells” however, do not sound good.

IT’S THE SAME GD PHONE AS IT’S ALWAYS BEEN! I had the SK1 & SK2, didn’t buy the 3, LX or SLIDE cuz it’s seriously a difference of 3-4 features. I’m not shelling $200+ til for the same archaic OS.

Don’t forget this phone has the back pussy feature which let’s you slide it in from the back side giving you that extra release.

What a piece of shit……. Its a rehash of the lx. What the fuck kind of business is Danger running?? They really don’t give a shit anymore about the business.
They are officially the new Palm….

does this shit have a flash or what and y would they make the screen smaller if the lx has the bigger screen and everyone loves it t-mobile needs 2 create a bigger screen evn though the phone is smaller smh and they need 2 add more time for the video feature wtf am i gon record in 20 secs i piss longer than that

@BL@Z3.
there is no flash. they made the screen smaller because of the faceplates. how do you the phones records videos at 20 seconds?

A lot of anger around here lately. Guys, this is an “ENTRY LEVEL” Sidekick which might go for $100 or possibly even less. 2 megapixel, video recording, full keyboard, 11 different removable bumpers, and the cool keyboard and jump menus of the old sidekicks. I don’t think it sounds too bad. The readers here must make a lot more money than I do if they are constantly demanding devices with specs that will put it over $350.

Which is why you go buy an iPhone…

@ The outside kuz the lx records 20 seconds so i wouldn’t expect more from a camera with no flash and better quality smh

@ outside also
What does the faceplates have 2 do with the screen being smaller they should’ve mad it the same sixe as the lx and added more features besides 2.0 megapixels

also if u look at thye screen they could have made the words on the side od the screen smaller and made the screen wider

Attention everyone, other than the people who look at this site, no one really cares about 3G. I know its faster and all (i love it), but the basic consumer uses a phone for to call text and IM. Just a thought to the typical person who complains about T-mobile’s lack of 3G just about anywhere.

They will NOT be calling it that. here is my Cease & Desist letter to them:
