BlackBerry Thunder Available For Pre-order?

Expansys doesn’t seem to be in any rush to pull a seemingly large mistake from its UK and Irish sites, but we imagine they will soon enough. What exactly is the mistake you ask? Well a quick click on the read link will bring you to an Expansys page where you can pre-order the “BlackBerry 9500 Smartphone” aka BlackBerry Thunder. Beyond the fact that the image on their sites look like it was pulled off of the net and watermarked, we don’t see too many sites offering pre-orders on a phone that probably won’t drop for another four months. Either this is some kind of mistake and Expansys has jumped the gun, or this will be the first handset that Canadian messaging-master RIM launches a new handset in… the UK and Ireland. The specs listed on Expansys’ pre-order page seem odd, at least the little info that is there. 3G, quad-band GSM, OS 4.7 and so on. The site also adds Wi-Fi however, and makes no mention of a camera. No pricing info is up on the site and no hints are given in terms of their expected arrival date either. The BlackBerry 9500 is not listed for pre-order on Expansys’ US site.

UPDATE: Yep, Expansys pulls the Thunder pre-order pages from both the UK and Irish sites shortly after this post was published. Oops…

You know one thing I hate most, is when people speak on things they know nothing about, because you spread things that are not true.

CDMA is not an old school technology.
CDMA is a newer better technology then GSM.
HSUPA, HSDPA, or what ever it’s called these days is not 3G GSM it’s WCDMA.
Verizon is not switching to GSM…
LTE is neither GSM, nor CDMA, it’s something altogether different…

    Questions:
    1. Why have their been 3G CDMA phones for years on Verizon and Sprints networks, but we are now starting to see 3G Iphones, 3G blackberries coming to WCDMA/GSM networks in 08?
    2. Why has Verizon had 3G blackberries since 05…
    3. How can Verizon’s network be rated the best network, year after year, if it’s “old school”
    4. how come most american carriers are CDMA

Why don’t you go look up why most of Europe is on GSM, I don’t have time to type all of that in this post but the answer is different then what you maybe thinking.

Sometimes I think people should go jump off a building knees first before posting…

For the last time, sprint is not and will probably NEVER receive this device, they can’t even retain customers, and its been mentioned time and time again, that it will have GSM / CDMA hybrid capabilites!

Four months, seriously? RIM is dropping the ball for sure. This is the second iteration of the iPhone and they still don’t have a competitor.

i played with it the other day at work . next door works at RIM and brang it in. makes the iphone look like a piece of toy. Blazing fast internet speeds it kills the iPhone. the thunder indeed has a camera and Wi-fi , the keyboard and everything is soo nicely built. way more easier and better than iphone.

VERIZON and VODAFONE will have lifetime exclusivity on the Thunder….as long as they meet there sales quota set by RIM themselves.

I foresee AT&T’s mothership of a Carrier possibly getting an updated model of the Thunder…which in our case will be

    1. A bummer for waiting so long for the thunder.
    2. Still a bummer.
    3. After Verizons monkey test run, well get a much better model.
    4. look over our shoulders, smile and grin at the ifan boys and tell them, we TOLD YA SO!

Then againg, the chances of other carriers in the states are slim. GSM for voadafone EUROPE. US FREQUENCYS?

I spoke with an inside person to Verizon. He pointed out that Verizon DOES NOT SELL PHONES WITHOUT BEING ATTACHED TO A LINE (verizon line that is). It just doesnt happen, you cannot leave a store with a phone without it being scanned and attached to your line, and the system gives your phone service via its ESN #.

So does that mean so much for buying it and unlocking it? He goes on further to explain, that I will really need to know someone in the company to get ahold of one because of verzions auto something on locking out phones that dont register ESN’s or something like that attached to the account. I dunno but it made it seem really impossible to buy one and unlock it.

Know that you need to know someone, not just anyone…and pay them…pay them real good to loose “oops” a thunder for ya.
