Leaked Images of Sony Ericsson W302 “Feng”
With all of the handset images that have been leaked over the past week it’s not exactly easy to get excited over the “Feng”. The BlackBerry Thunder, the Samsung i8510, the BlackBerry Javelin; all pretty much utter hotness. So when shots of a phone like the W302 come along over the weekend, it’s kind of hard to get excited. Of course the W302 will still be a decent entry into Sony Ericsson’s low to mid-range lineup, so we’ll tell you what we know: The W302 will be a Walkman-branded slim candybar in line with the S302. It has a 2 megapixel camera that lacks a flash and autofocus, a 176 x 220 pixel display and runs on the A2 software platform. It maintains Sony Ericsson’s standard button configuration but thankfully it has dedicated send and end keys as well. From what we’re hearing the W302 could be announced as soon as next week and it’s slated to be released mid-October. That’s pretty much it. Apparently it may be a part of several handsets that Sony Ericsson will be annoucing this coming Tuesday but we’re not sure any of them will be of interest…

Although I would never own one (I would go stir crazy from low-tech itis the first day!) I think there is still a large market for these low-tech phones. There are many people whom are still new to the whole mobile phone game & for them the best way to handle them is NOT to overwhelm them but to give them the basics & then let them evolve into something a bit more complicated at their OWN pace.

Kudos to SE for riding comfortably in their own lane, and not trying too hard to take any of the smartphone market at the moment.
If I ever had to leave my Blackberry, I’d go back to a Sony Ericsson phone. They may not be the best or well known in the Smartphone market, but they always have made rock solid phones, hardware and software wise. I’d never hesitate to buy one if I needed to.

Although this is just tangentially related, it’s really awesome to just think about how much the cell phone industry has developed. This is a SE Walkman phone so it definitely has an mp3 player–and a good one, at that–bluetooth (for AD2P), in addition to a 2MP camera. A phone like this is yawn-inducing and rightfully so nowadays. Just as little as 5 years ago, this phone would’ve been lustworthy.
Remember when the Motorola v600 was a highend phone? Hell, the Motorola RAZR was “fresh” and “exclusive” setting the highend.
