Palm Centro drops to $69.99 on AT&T
For some reason, Palm and AT&T have conspired to lower the price of their Centro handheld by a full $30. The diminutive little bugger is now on sale via all retail channels for the bargain basement price of $69.99. Sure, it will cost you in the form of a 2-year contract, but if the $199 iPhone 3G is a bit too expensive for your taste, the Centro might suffice as a suitable stand-in…that is, of course, if you’re completely blind. Sure, the Centro sports a likeable, if outdated, interface, and a number of useful features, but at the end of the day we think you’d have to be crazy to spend good money on a device that runs off the 2.5G EDGE network, and has a keyboard designed for babies and people with abnormally small fingers. That said, if $69.99 seems like too good of a deal to pass up, head on over to your local AT&T store, bypass the lines of crying iPhone customers, and pick one up for yourself. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The article was posted more than a half hour ago and there are no comments (er…); that pretty much says it all, doesn’t it?

Though it may still run the outdated Palm OS, and yes, the buttons are a bit small…
This is still a powerful device. The Palm OS is easier to sync and easier to operate than Windows Mobile.
The Centro is a perfect fit in your hands - not big and bulky.
The Centro really does make a nice device to enter into the realm of PDA phones if you’re looking to do that. Especially for those that don’t want too much of a learning curve! The icon format (just like the iPhone) makes operating this phone quick and easy to pick up.
I wouldn’t slam it too hard.
Though - yes, I am still wishing I had waited for the iphone!!! (3 months into a contract on a Moto Q.)

Yes, the Tilt is a better overall device and is on sale right now for $199 (no rebates in the business channel!) Obviously it is to coincide with the iphone…
And yes, Best Buy does offer these (and many others from time to time) for a lower price. it’s a buying deal from AT&T I imagine. Heck, for awhile - Walmart had the BlackBerry pearl for $18.88! and that was IN STORE. (not the online third party dealer that they contract with….)

Anyway, the thought of crying iPhone customers makes me smile…there goes me winning the iPhone 3G giveaway!!! (awwww, damn)

you act like its a terrible device. the palm centro might have a crapping keyboard and an aging os, but it is a very reliable device and the os isn’t that bad. its easy to use and its pretty powerful. in fact its so easy that i gave one to my mother as a present and she got use to it in a week. it was her first smartphone. i think this is a very great deal.

The Centro is what the treo should have turned into years ago. Thats sad since if you pay list for one (about $200) its still more functional and easier to use then any other phone at that price except for maybe the new Iphone. But then again list may be in the $200 range but through Sprint/Verizon/At&t you can get it for between 39 and 59 bucks. Almost forgot I am typing this on a Centro, pardon the typos I did not go back and fix.
