Because there are a multitude of people that are not near/in/around the 3g networks and Wifi with UMA is just about as fast and easier to access in more places. T-Mobile is getting this to replace it’s current Curve and needs something that upgrades for UMA. One thing I don’t know though…is there some reason you couldn’t have a phone with both the UMA and the 3G? Do they conflict in some way? I just have not seen anything on that at all.

Yeah you’re wrong mooseman….tmobile DOES support 3G, In fact I live in Maine(with other types of Moose) and we got 3G yesterday….tmobiles 3G is already up and running in most major areas, definitely by october 1

Yes, tmobile has exclusivity to Javelin like ATT has exclusivity to Bold(90 days)…oh and don’t worry, the Jav update comin out in Spring has 3G

From the Wikipedia page on USB standards:

“The Micro-USB connector, was announced by the USB-IF on January 4, 2007.[11] It is intended to replace the Mini-USB plugs used in many new smartphones and Personal digital assistants. This Micro-USB plug is rated for 10,000 connect-disconnect cycles (compared to 500 for mini- and regular USB). It is about half the height of the mini-USB connector, but features a similar width. In the Universal Serial Bus Micro-USB Cables and Connectors Specification, details have been laid down for Micro-A plugs, Micro-AB receptacles, and Micro-B plugs and receptacles, along with a Standard-A receptacle to Micro-A plug adapter. The carrier led group OMTP have recently endorsed micro-USB as the standard connector for data and power on mobile devices.[12]”

There are other technical reasons that the new micro-USB is better – the springs are on the plug, not the receptacle, so that in the event they break, it’s far cheaper to replace the connecting cable and not the device.

I originally didn’t like the idea of micro-USB, but prefer it now. (Hopefully, new portable hard-drives would also switch to micro-USB.)

Can you elaborate on the Bes 5.0 (argon) in the spec list? Considering that CURRENT handsets can be used on Argon, what exactly would the difference be? BES has been and at least for the foreseeable future continue to be device/carrier agnostic.

I did have it with Tmobile…and my curve…it was ok, It wasnt all that…calls would drop or switch over to edge and i would still get charge minutes on calls i made…but i think it was a cool feature just wasnt for me and ever since the unlimited plans came out it was useless for me…

I was told by a T-Mobile employee that the Bold will be coming in August. Also, 3G is just around the corner.

I have a friend that works at RIM and I was told that all new devices Bold/Thunder forward will have MicroUSB. I was told that there is a push in the industry to standardize all phones to use MicroUSB and with the same voltages, etc… so that charging devices are uniform between manufacturers and models. Bluetooth headsets are also supposed to get this connector for charging. Basically its to reduce the clutter one carries in their car or with them on a trip so that they can charge all their devices. Sounded smart to me!

MiniUSB is quite large, too large for some BT headsets so it couldn’t be used.

Aside from some industry players that tend to want to force people into their standards eg. iPhone with dock connector, this would be hugely beneficial.

I remember my friend having a Razor, me with my Berry. If we’d take a road trip we’d have to carry both chargers because his Motocharger would charge the Berry, but the Berry’s wouldn’t charge his.

I am not sure if I like it….it looks kinda cheap to me. I wish RIM could do something about that cheap plastic look – even my Curve just feels “cheap”.

IMHO the leather back on the Bold is a step into this direction, but if Apple can make a really fancy back with the iPhone and especially the iPhone 3G, then RIM should be able to do so as well.

I guess thats your “perspective”…because to me they dont suck…

I had tmobile and they didnt suck…I recently changed to Sprint because their $99 plan had more to offer than what my $99 tmobile plan did…As long as I can recieve my emails, send my texts and make my calls i think the service is good. I’m not like alot of fanitics here that want all the phones and service to do all these special things that half the time your not really using…therefore to each is own

I’m with Rob D on this one…if Verizon is going to have an exclusive why can’t Sprint get Exclusive love?

Second, my BB curve on Sprint has been the best Curve of all the Providers by far…it didn’t need a silly upgrade to have Video Recording and the GPS on this thing is SWEET!!! WiFi is OVERRATED

I was also sad to find that the Javelin has a MicroUSB port instead of the standard MiniUSB we have all gotten used to.
