And So it Begins…
Just as the image above suggests – it’s here and, ummm, it has “3G speed built in”. It’s a good thing Apple clarified that because we thought the new iPhone came with 3G on the side. We’ve got to give it to Apple this time as they did a much better job of not only building hype, but also convincing a whole lot more people that they need to have the iPhone 3G the instant it’s available. Last year the few stores that had lines form pre-release were blown out of proportion, not to mention few and far between. This year, it’s getting dirty. Longer lines, seemingly more anxious people and we have some stores running out of iPhones shortly after opening their doors. We’re getting emails and comments reporting that some stores are already planning to sell their Saturday allotment today. Wow. As you know, we already got our grubby mits on an iPhone 3G so we might just sit tight and enjoy the AC today. If you’re one of the crazies brave souls out there this morning on the front lines, best of luck to you. In the meantime, we’ll be checking out a few games, a little Twitterific maybe, and perhaps one of the three thousand to-do applications in the AppStore. Man, developers really think that iPhone owners have a lot to do. Clearly not considering all of the people out there buying iPhone 3Gs today instead of working. Maybe they should crank out a few job search apps…

I still think my new Motorola Startac I bought two hours ago at the flea market is better than the iPhone. LOL.

I hear that Apple has just OFFICIALLY released the iphone/touch 2.0 update and people are having MAJOR problems installing it. Their phones & touches are bricked….Can you check this & post something for us?

I installed 2.0 last night from the download off the great BGR site. Works fine, no problems. My phone was even “jailbroken” before. It took a while but worked fine. My question on the new 2.0 is what is the deal with the contacts button on the home screen. Seems pointless and redundant but I guess I am just missing something.

Well, I JUST got home about an half hour ago from waiting in lines a combined total of almost nine hours!!!
First, and showed up at a downtown Chicago AT&T store at about 7AM. I was about 40th or 50th in line. Of course the reps said they weren’t allowed to discuss their inventory and couldn’t say for sure whether we would get a phone or not. But I figured, major metro area, downtown, they’ll have more than 50. Pfft, by the time I was about 3 people away from the door, they were out of all of their supply. And the staff didn’t even tell us, other people who were already in the store and
still in line, came out and gave us the news. Then a rep came out and said we couldn’t reserve one after they’d been telling us for hours that if we didn’t get a phone we could.
So then we heard from other people who were coming from the Apple flagship store that Apple had a huge supply. So I just went there and waited. Five Hours! Mostly due to the fact that itunes had been crashing all day and Apple was trying to fix it so they could activate in store. Instead they ended up making it optional to synch in store. But, after everything, I’ve got my iPhone!!! I need a shower and a nap now.
My Doctor told me I have 10 days to live today. He said my Appleitis was maligant, spreading fast, and that it was terminal. He also told me that a new unopened Iphone 3G is the only cure. Unfortunately I cannot afford the cure to save myself. Please BGR save my life. I will be indebted to you forever!
so… I got the iPhone 3G.
Now the learning curve begins.
I wanted the 3G but the lines were crazy. even up until 7PM Friday night. I hope everyone who wanted a phone got a phone. I will wait a while. Who knows, maybe I will win one.
