iPhone 2.0 Firmware Now Available!

The iPhone 3G will not go on sale until tomorrow and version 2.0 software isn’t yet available for “old school” iPhones either. Apple has still decided to move forward and release iTunes 7.7 complete with a live AppStore. Look but don’t touch! Wait a minute? What’s that? Uh oh, it looks like original iPhone owners are in for a treat as we’ve just received word the the 2.0 firmware is now live and available for download. Well we received word and a download link, that is. If you’ve decided to hold on to your OG iPhone, for nostalgia’s sake perhaps, it’s your lucky day. Hit the read link before Apple’s servers get hosed and start enjoying all of that exchange-rocking, legal app-supporting goodness right away.

Can I install 2.0 on a previously unlocked phone? Will it brick it or lock it?
    Does anyone have the link?
    Thanks

I notice my phone is runnig a little slugish after loading 2.0 and connecting to my exchange… since I did both items right after each otehr I’m, not sure if it is the 2.0 update causing me to run slower (notice a pause or lag when doing diffrent things) or if it is the exchange piece.

If someone knows: where do U think I’ll be able to find the iTouch upgrade to 2.0? Will it be posted on the iTunes 7.7? So far I don’t see anything. Or is this something that I physically need to do at an Apple Store. Thanks.

This upgrade doesn’t work with the iPod Touch (1.1.4 with software upgrade). Still need the iPhone 2.0 upgrade for iPod Touch, which (stupidly) is not available yet (according to Apple.com).

Safari is unzipping the ipsw file before it hits the desktop. I ended up downloading it via Firefox where it stays zipped and was then able to upgrade my iphone.

Works like a charm!!…i’ve already installed tons of free apps from the itunes app store…i couldn’t resist and also purchased crash bandicoot 3d and super monkey ball…only $9.99 for these awesome games?? try to find a newly released psp game for that price!! the graphics, sounds, and controls are freakin’ unbelievable!!! and according to iphone software developers, they haven’t even scratched the surface yet and haven’t fully utilized the iphone’s capabilities…..in short, upgrade to 2.0 now!!!

To download this in Safari, go to your Safari preferences, click on the “general” tab, and uncheck the “open safe files after downloading”. Then download the ipsw file again and it won’t be a folder anymore. Then in itunes just hold the “option” key when you click on “check for updates” it will allow you to navigate to the file you downloaded.

I live in Australia and have been happily using my iphone bought in New York unlocked with Optus for few months and have become incredibly dependant on it. Now being a MacOptimist I thought early yesterday morning when the iPhone 3G which I have a deposit on with Optus but can’t get one for a week or more! The rigamorole at the Optus Store on opening day wasted an hour of my time and still no contract or a iPhone 3G. So I read of the unlock for 2.0 rekoned that seeing Optus was now an approved carrier I should ugrade my perfectly fine and free iPhone to 2.0 firmware and it would magically work. Now I have an iPhone in limbo! Can’t downgrade back to 1.1.4 to unlock it again. You just get Error (20) and no resotre takes place.

Can’t use it as it seems Apple have now linked it to check if your SIM is approved. So when you first activate the phone it must be done with an approved SIM which I can’t buy or get even. So I have been two days almost without my iPhone or even a mobile I can use. the Dopod 8338Pro I am still paying off with Optus yet I can;t use it the screen will not align itself anymore. I am pissed off. It looks like my partner has to go and waste an hour of her time in an Optus Store on Monday (the account happened to be in her name!) to then join a queue, which Optus say they have no idea when they are getting more iPhones.
