BlackBerry Bold Gets Approved by FCC
BlackBerry fans here in the US will be happy to learn that the BlackBerry 9000 aka Bold has just passed through the FCC testing process and received its approval. It has been quite a ride with the Bold dating back to October when we first broke it and even further back to January 2007 when we started telling you about the 90xx series. Now we’re likely just over a month away from a release and the only remaining question is whether or not people are still excited about it. Sure we all already know the specs but a quick highlight recap:
- Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100) with HSDPA support
- WiFi
- 480 x 320 pixel display
- New UI including full-HTML browser
- 1500 mAh battery
So there you have it. We’re closer than ever to a release; which by the way should happen on AT&T in mid August according to our sources. We’re almost there people – think it’ll warrant any iPhone-esque lines at AT&T stores?

@sheed
may i recommend starting your cell phone manufacturing company and make a phone with the bold’s keyboard, iphone screen & interface, with the bold’s power and applications. welcome to the… iBOLD
Will it warrant a line like the iphone? Of course not, people buy a Blackberry because they have things to do. Not stores to be seen standing outside of.
Not even close. The iPhone is still a joke, IMO.
@ BG or anyone
When do new AT&T devices typically release after FCC approval?
Of course you just can’t resist commenting something about the iPhone in a Blackberry post.
So is this just the at&t version or is it confirmation that there is no 3G T-Mo version?
A 3G version for t-mobile would require separate fcc approval
Actually, I feel the delay will ultimately hurt RIM. The stock will tell the talePeople won’t wait, and being iPhone is more consumer oriented and Blackberry more Enterprise oriented, they still are different beast, feeding two different hungers.Like I said before my old 8300 Curve still works fine, as far as Edge goes, 3G will be better, but we still get it done. Hopefully this will be what the Curve could have been in the first place. It is my impression that the 8800 series for whatever reason has not moved the units like the 8300 series.Like I really like the Curve I only wish these companies would put it all together in one package, instead of all the piece meal that goes on with features.
Was kinda bummed that I wasn’t gonna have a bold with the battery issues unresolved.. That didn’t take too long
Still in doubt about the 1 gig mem tho
Who cares if the thunder takes its time
I’d rather have a device I can actually use than have it as a conversation piece
I dont think there is gonna be a 3G tmobile version. tmobile will probably get the javelin
@The Outside
Sounds like a double lawsuit to me
iBOLD sued by RIM and Apple.
@Perry:
There is a restocking fee with the iPhone, so if you do indeed exchange it for the Berry, you’ll be out (I believe) 10% of the cost of the version of the iPhone you get.
hahahaha
Hank: You do of course realize that your opinion, like every other person’s on this board, is basically meaningless, right? This includes the things that I say, which is good that this post isn’t an opinion.
Chris: Yes, it’s that simple. Everyone that buys a BlackBerry has things to do, and everyone that buys an iPhone is unemployed and/or has nothing to do. I’m curious though. . .if Blackberry users have so much to do, why are they on message boards so much? It’s not like they can really post from their phones since they have kind of a retarded browser, so what gives?
Now before anyone flames, remember what I said earlier about how meaningless opinions are. . .and then go ahead and post anyway because you’re so easily offended.
yey
Come on Bold…
@perspective: Well said and so true
@The Outside: Very intriguing, now, how do I get the capitol for this endeavor.
Even though I’ve had the original iphone for 9 months and got over it, I still want the new one. On the other hand I’ve had a few different blackberries and I love them, the thought of a do it all Bold makes me want to punch myself with glee. I should work for a phone company not accounting for an old folks home management company.
@sheed
get in talks with samsung. working with them you can make an exact replica of the iphone and watch how quickly samsung lawyers make apple start paying for licensing their own product
I’d be willing to wager that BOLD isn’t an August release, but October instead.
Also, I hope their browser gets real HTML, and not a water’d down version (how difficult could it be to port webkit to BB)
@Perry @Bob
Bob is right, 10% goes back to AT&T or Apple depending on point of purchase..either way your paying it back..no if’s and’s or but’s.
@jACK
Here we go again…..what source is telling you it won’t be ready as BGR claims?
the bb bold popped up on tmobile germany i think it hop for us tmobile lovers the bold had a good no great chance of coming to the states for tmobile
they probably have to manufactur a special model for tmo usa becaus of the 1700 mhz frequency DAMN YOU FCC
any time frame for a sprint release?
No 1700 mhz
FYI
T-Mobile Germany has it on their website for 90 Bucks (EURO)with a 2 year contract. It also says it will be available in July.
