BlackBerry Bold Gets Approved by FCC
BlackBerry fans here in the US will be happy to learn that the BlackBerry 9000 aka Bold has just passed through the FCC testing process and received its approval. It has been quite a ride with the Bold dating back to October when we first broke it and even further back to January 2007 when we started telling you about the 90xx series. Now we’re likely just over a month away from a release and the only remaining question is whether or not people are still excited about it. Sure we all already know the specs but a quick highlight recap:
- Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100) with HSDPA support
- WiFi
- 480 x 320 pixel display
- New UI including full-HTML browser
- 1500 mAh battery
So there you have it. We’re closer than ever to a release; which by the way should happen on AT&T in mid August according to our sources. We’re almost there people – think it’ll warrant any iPhone-esque lines at AT&T stores?

YES! Thats awesome news! Come on now AT&T, lets get past this iPhone ridiculousness and release the BOLD! I’m sure i’m not the only one chomping at the bit to get my hands on one of these.
I want one!!! ATT get you shi* together.
I’m assuming they’ll be doing the traditional Blackberry shuffle of releasing different versions that have either Wi-Fi or GPS, but not both until late in the life cycle of this particular series?
Where is the CDMA ver?
This has both wifi and full GPS
This thing should have been released by now, they’re are verging on burn out for people waiting for it.
Excellent new BGR, now I want one, more than a plate full of chorizos.
Wow. Post bad Thunder news and you’re an AT&T-pushing BlackBerry hater. . .report good Bold news and, wow, no allegations at all, even though the timing of the “good” Bold news is even nearer to the iPhone release than the “bad” Thunder news. Interesting. I wonder why this is so?
Waiting for the Tmo 3G version…along with the coming of Christ..
I thought the Bold was going to be available in July at Rogers?
So continues the iPhone vs Blackberry debate. I’ve got a solution!
Left holster 3G iPhone right holster Bold. The two best phones on USA networks shouldn’t be separated, that’s why we have bluetooth headsets that connect to two phones.
Excited doesn’t even cover it. I’m stoked for the Bold’s release and in September when my Sprint contract is up, I will be a proud owner of the new Bold.
so i guess tmo’s version is never coming out huh
No confirmation from those bitches at T-Mo? I’m so close to dropping my service and switching to ATT to get one of these or the new iphone.
@ Andrew
LOL
ROFL @ dand
Amen fuckers!
Yah I thought that this was releasing on T-Mobile in September I hear…wouldn’t it need FCC approval rather soon?
I guess it’ll be a new model number just for T-Mobile then…they need to make a quad band UMTS chip already
Don’t forget about the 1GB of onboard storage and microsdhc support. That’s big.
Screw AT&T’s launch..Rogers IS good for somethings.
I want the BOLD, can I have it?
There is NO WAY this will launch in August for AT&T, no matter what BGR’s sources say. It is July 10th and RIM has yet to get the device right. Think closer to Oct/Nov.
Perfect.
Now I can try the iPhone and if it don’t work out, I crawl back to BlackBerry and the Bold – which I’m sure will be awesome.
I never felt I could bash the iPhone cuz I hadn’t tried it. Now’s the time.
@ BG:
Push contacts/calendar events is a very solid iPhone feature. Do any of your RIM contacts indicate if they have an answer to that?
I am so torn between the iPhone and bold. I am such a phonewhore. I want both.
My solution – any holes in this?
I understand AT&T has a 30-day return policy on the iphone. So, i plan to wait until ~July 20th, get an iphone, then give myself a couple of days at the end of 30 days to play with a Bold in the store.
Best phone wins, no extra cost. And, a few weeks of play time with iphone.
what’s not to love?
