AT&T iPhone 3G shipment info

Tired of the onslaught of iPhone 3G news? You’re going to have to bear with us a little longer, friends. We just got word on some semi-strange but sensible iPhone 3G shipment policies. Here’s how it goes: AT&T stores have already received most likely two shipments of iPhone 3Gs. All AT&T stores will be getting a third shipment of iPhone 3Gs tomorrow, but there’s a catch. They can’t sell Friday’s shipment until Saturday. And guess what? There’s a fourth shipment coming Saturday, and you guessed it — they can’t sell those until Sunday. While this might mean some poor souls in line won’t be getting their iPhone 3Gs tomorrow, if they don’t get there early enough, it gives everyone who couldn’t scam their way out of work a chance to live again. What’s the verdict on the policy? Yay, or nay?
Thanks, Ronnie!

We received a shipment wednesday for friday. We were supposed to receive another shipment yesterday, but something happened with the Fed Ex plane and it was delayed until today. Tomorrow we are also expected to receive a shipment for Sunday. Our initial shipment (Wed) is for today’s opening. We can also order (direct fulfilment, with their name on it) for people if we run out.
Your sources were right. Don’t pay attention to the haters.
ATT is happy this way they won’t have to pay commission out to their reps who are just filling orders. ATT is the one that planned this not Apple.
Is Apple running into some sort of supply chain issue, are they unable to meet their own pent up demand. They stopped selling iPhone 1.0 to early (or early enough to stop returns for iPhone 2.0) they can’t keep MobileMe up, and now they can’t deliver enough iPhones 2.0 in time. Sounds like Jobs did not plan properly and maybe the whole Rogers thing was to fix the lack of phones in the EU after all with the tariff issue a good excuse.
Well, in all fairness, Apple is the one that has sold itself over and over, especially with the iPhone. I’ve never needed to be “sold” on an Apple product, especially by some clueless salesman that knows less about the product than I do. Not that everyone is like me and they do need direction and questions asked, but in general, I doubt if any salesman, AT&T or Apple will need to “sell” the device to 99% of the customers who want it.
In this case, they really are just order takers. Now if you want to talk about having to be a good salesman, try selling last years Blackberry to Verizon’s customers OR get someone with good credit to sign up with Sprint. Those guys are due respect.
about 80 people in line at my local AT&T store, about the same as last year. Im waiting for mine simply because we have no 3G in the area.
Just waited in line at the AT&T store. I Didnt make the first shipment, but they get their friday shipment at 11 and they are going to start selling them today.
DID YOUR GUYS SEE THE CRAPPY Data rates for the iphone?

Well, it just makes sense from my POV, it makes people come back while they still have that “buying urge”. If there would be no iPhones the whole weekend one could have postponed the purchase long enough to decide that it’s too expensive. Doing this Apple captures more buyers.
That’s really dumb and stupid of ATT&T to do to those who have stood online
R u sure they are really doing this? It would be nice!
This is exactly what happened to me this morning! 20 iphones for the store I went. Come On ATT and Apple WTF!!!
I waited in line at my AT&T after they told me I could pick up today’s shipment at 11, but when it came there were only 30. Not enough to cover a crowd waiting for the iPhone in Miami. They should think about sending larger amounts to big cities.
Just spoke with the NYC ATT store at 23rd and Broadway, and their quote is “we don’t have enough stock for the customers in line”. I think we’ll probably see sellouts.
I waited in line in Raleigh this morning, the ran out of 16GB with the first 15 people in line, I was about 20th so no 3G for me. Another store did confirm that the will have another shipment for tomorrow, not sure I want to go back and wait in line though.
Just got back from waiting in line at my local small town AT&T Store. 30 People in like I was #10. They were sold out too. But after talking to the manager off to the side I confirmed that they will also be available tomorrow morning for Sale. You were right. Thanks for the info.
What time will they be selling them on saturday? Anybody? Kid?
Just got back from one of the stores here in DC and they were out (quite fast actually). The store told me that the line was only about 20 people just before 6AM, but was up to 250 by 7:30. The store mentioned also that they were only taking orders at this point, and that wait times for the 16GB Black was 7-10 business days. The store told me that I could get the 8GB one by Tuesday.
This is BS. Why can’t I buy an iphone today if I have the money in hand? Elitism at it’s best
I’m sorry Mr. Said, but what you have just said is retarded. You are claiming that they are being elitist by only selling however many they are selling. First of all, its hard to produce millions of phones to be sold on a single day. Secondly, they are trying to create as much hype as possible, because it is in their intrests to sell as many as possible. They couldnt give a shit about being elitist or not, they just want to make as much money as possible.
By the way, for your reference…I didnt call you retarded (I dont know you, I cannot determine that), but what you said was ignorant. So I hope you do not take this personally.
In line early at large ATT store in San Antonio about number 50 or so – doors opened at 0830 at 845 they told us that all the 16GB blacks were gone! So off to the Apple store – just spent 5 hours in line at Apple Store who could not sell me the iPhone because I was receiving a discount on my bill from AT&T – seems if you have a discount because of the company you work for even though its a personal account Apple can’t sell you the phone because of the activation system in place.
I had contacted AT&T both thru their rep at the store and by calling customer service yesterday and while in line at the Apple store today and was assured there would be no problems buying the phone – so much for doing my homework and trying to be prepared.
Of course their are no 16GB models available at any of the AT&T store now and I was less than 2 ft from having one in my hand at the Apple store after waiting 5 hours..
It is hard to believe two companies as big as AT&T and Apple didn’t know this info in advance and either been prepared or got the word out to customers.
So it looks like I will have to get up earlier on Saturday and go back to ATT store and hope that they didn’t sell Saturdays shipment on Friday
I personally think that is a great idea… (No sarcasm).. Especially for people like me who couldn’t snag one today (july 11th).. So this news makes me more confident that i will have one tomorrow
I found one place on the web that actually has the iPhone guards in stock……everywhere else is 1-2 weeks out.
http://www.gadgetguard.com guarantees that they will ship it out next business day. THEY ALSO ARE THE ONLY PLACE THAT I HAVE FOUND INSURANCE FOR THE IPHONE!!!!
none of you can just take a breather and get an iphone next week? or week after that?
HOURS in line?! are you kidding me?
whats gonna happen if you dont get one today or tomorrow? youre not gonna get laid? your cat will bury a turd in your favorite cereal box in anger?? your buddies wont want to hang with you while they watch “next” on MTV?
no…how about doing what im doing? waiting til they have in stock in a week or two and walk right in and get it.
its not a sidekick and your not a 15 year old girl so relax, you guys are still “cool” to your buddyes, even without an Iphone today.
well put!
It’s not because they don’t wanna sell them or just keep the demand up. It’s also to make the network (both AT&T’s and Apple’s) from taking a big dump due to the sheer number of activations. No cell phone store has opened to this much excitement nationwide until Apple brought the iphone.
