Sprint launching HTC Touch Diamond on September 2nd?
If there’s one handset out there that’s almost as highly anticipated as the iPhone, it’s the HTC Touch Diamond. Announced in May, we’ve been waiting for an official carrier announcement here in the United States. Sprint and Verizon are rumored to be among the first to offer here, but specific dates have been elusive. According to a recently leaked slide, however, it looks like we might be in for a treat come September. Apparently, the carrier is preparing to launch the Touch Diamond as the HTC MP6950 (the current touch is the MP6900), on the 2nd of September, which is just under 2 months away for anyone counting. We’ll work on getting confirmation on this, but in the mean time you might want to salivate a bit over the Telus version,which looks to be launching about a month before we see one down this way.
Thats great and all. But as a owner of the original CDMA Touch and been told numerous times (by sprint reps) that the update that activated GPS is right around the corner (and already leaked…)
I’ll be more then a little annoyed with sprint if this one gets out the gate before I get my update.
I’ve seen rumors they won’t push the update out because they fear it will effect sales of the Diamond. Why keep your promises when there is money to be had? oh yeah, so you don’t loose a bazillion subscribers…
Why don’t you just flash the most recent rom that was leaked? You will have your functionality. I have no idea why this has not been officially released, but this will get you where you want to be.
How do we know that’s the Diamond and not the CDMA Touch Dual or the Touch Pro?
We do. Pretty sure it isn’t the Diamond. Touch Dual according to my sources…

AllenHarkleroad can be found on just about any Sprint forum. He loves to copy and paste his same rant whenever Sprint is mentioned.
The funny thing is that reading his story it’s hard to feel sorry for the guy. Watching your expenses will go a long way towards running into this problem.
I looked at the site and looks like he negotiated poorly when signing up for T-1 service.
This sounds a lot more like the Touch Dual than the Diamond. Which sucks b/c we need the Diamond in the US!!!! Come ON HTC!!! Do people hate WinMo THAT much?!?!? The Diamond and Touch Pro are kick @$$ products, so what’s up with no love from US carriers?!?!

Just a few corrections, Sprint is launching both the Touch Diamond and Pro. The Pro will be exclusive to Sprint and the Diamond may be launched with Verizon, but will not launch until 6 months after Sprint if at all.
A Sprint rep confirmed to me on 24 July that Sprint is launching the Touch Diamond on 02 Sept.
I am awaiting the Pro version with great anticipation! Currently have the Mogul and really like it, but from the specs and look of the “HTC Raphael”, it is going to take me to the next level.
Most of the rumor/discussion seems to be around the Diamond for 9/2/08 – has anyone heard or seen a date for the alleged release date for the Pro?

do you know when it’ll come to Verizon? i hate this ‘testing’ phase that verizon does… makes me want to go to sprint just to get the phone sooner than later! i’m REALLY wanting to use my new every two!!!!

also when i asked a sprint sales rep about if it was really coming out they said they didn’t have that information. but that might be wrong. i don’t know
Left Sprint to give the iPhone 3G a try and am bringing it back. During my call with Sprint’s Customer Retention today the rep confirmed that they are launching the Diamond on September 2nd. I look forward to it, but still find it hard to believe that they didn’t do some marketing on it before hand (like the Instinct).
hey, i spoke with sprint customer care today, and there was no information on the release date for diamond and that came after being transfered to 3 different departments.
both the reps my friends and I talked to, confirmed the diamond to be available this Sept 2nd.
the HTC diamond has been delayed till September 14th and the HTC PRO comes out october 19th
