Are you really serious?

Like, for realz? You’re going after the kid right now? The Bold-breaker? Javelin-leaker? Thunder-scoopster? Kickstart-poster? I’m not even going to get into too many details but I will respond to a couple of the more stupid questions and insinuations posed. First off, you’re saying one of my AT&T sources gave me information on the Thunder, right? Because that makes so much sense. You know, a device which very few people have had access to, being used by someone who works for AT&T. If you haven’t heard by now, it’s coming to Verizon. Idiots. But what about time frame BG? “IT’S COMING OUT IN AUGUST!!!” What did I tell you when I broke the Thunder story? November. What’s 4-5 months from now? November. Oh, ok. Secondly, my source is a source I would trust 100x over almost anybody else. Not going to give too much away to protect him, but let’s say they work for RIM and has helped BGR out a ton in the past. Sorry guys, but we don’t regularly cite commenters as our “high-up sources.” Lastly… the iPhone fanboy accusations. Maybe you haven’t noticed, but 65-70% of our readers are BlackBerry fanatics, and we’re the world-leader in BlackBerry news. I didn’t want to get into this, but if you’d really like to, go add up all your “exclusive” BlackBerry stories and let’s see how many were correct. Then add up mine. Go ring-a-ling that bell somewhere else, because I don’t play games. I bring factual heat.
P.S. Please stop using the term ninja. Ninjas are people who risk their jobs and livelihood for your site and your readers, not people who comment on your blog.

Well put, BG. Don’t know why you’re getting so much heat - the Blackberry fanboys (of which I am one!) must be gettin’ kinda touchy with the Iphone 3G about to happen and no response from RIM to be seen.
I thought your source’s comments all sounded very believable, all issues to be expected along the road to a final product. RIM just isn’t as far down that road as some would like.
Killing the messenger doesn’t strike me as appropriate, though…

Ya ain’t got world-class fame unless ya got world-class haters BG.

BG, your post was completely unnecessary as those that follow this website, like me, already know the accuracy — at least from a Blackberry perspective ;). No need to set those of us straight whom just don’t get it; their loss. However, if you feel the need to do so, I support your decision

Btw, what were the results of your nokia giveaway?

BG–I love when you bring the hammer down. Good job. But like mobilecontrol said, you ain’t got world-class fame unless ya got world-class haters.

“I has been reported by several sites and forums that BoyGen works for ATT and his site is a iPhone fanboy site … they downplay everyphone… This post by him seems more like a desperate rant tosave whatever is left of the iPhone Hype… One of the biggest fanboys of Aple products Walt Mossberg reviews the iPhone 3G, isn’t that impressed
and David Pogue of the New York Times has also turned in a kinda-sorta review of the iPhone 3G
Everyone was expecting the iPhone 3G to be the bomb!!! but maybe it bombed
Kevin… or some blog editor… is time to call out Boy Genius website and all his editors… they are sponsored by ATT… I think that ENgadget and Crackberry are on point with the THUNDER and it has taken a lot of thunder from the iPhoney. ”

BG, while you are the first to break cover with a new BlackBerry, you’ll also have to admit that you have been wrong quite a lot lately. For example:
1) The launch of the original 8300 was way later than you forecasted
2) Remember your “baby bear”, “mama bear”, “papa bear” curves? With Papa being the WiFi, GPS, Cam toting curve promised? I still don’t see that one, do you?
3) I recall when you were swearing by your ninja’s that the 9000 was going to be a touch screen device. You even had a mock up made for us. Well, the Bold certainly doesn’t look like a Touchscreen to me.
Again, I love reading your site. You’ve been a reliable star with telling us about new devices. You’ve been highly unreliable with the specifications of those devices, their state of readiness and their launch dates.
Just my opinion.

To paraphrase Shakespear, “I think BG doth protest too much.”
Tooting the ol’ horn does not credibility increase. Being cool doth.

I’ll believe BGR before anysite.

Seriously folks, bring it down a notch. We’re talking cell phones here, not some critical, all important issue that commands such a heated dialogue. If you don’t like it here, go away. If you like it here, stay. Read the info, think about it, then move on to the next story….sheesh….such numbskullery!

@ CanisMinor
Let’s get into it.
1. My predicted launch time for the original 8300 was in May/June. It was released at the very end of May on AT&T. There is a difference between posting “rumors” and posting information sources give you. The possible post you were referring to was based on a random tip, and we ran it as such.
2. That was a decision by RIM to keep things separate. The hardware supported it and for all intents and purposes, I was correct. One with Wi-Fi, one with GPS.
3. I never said anything of the sort. In case you weren’t following along, we never even mentioned a touch screen in that post. The link is here: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/10/03/blackberry-9000-whispers-in-our-ear/ Additionally, all our specs from back in December were completely spot-on. The mockup picture we posted was a “hype” picture. We heard they were working on a touch screen device, but then people blew it out of proportion.

Such talk is reactionary, and contrary to the corner office leadership that one would expect from the statistical percentage champ. Less caffeine, more Zen.

Why would people get upset because it’s reported that a phone isn’t where it needs to be as far as function goes. I don’t understand why the people posting about the other article got upset to begin with.

It’s just funny to me that’s all. The whole being biased thing. Let me ask you this… two days before iPhone launch, what’s more likely to turn out to be true? A RIM worker telling you that their new device is the best touch screen device in the world with the best on-screen keyboard, or a RIM person telling you the truth by saying it’s horrible. People that work at RIM have pride, and for someone to say, “Listen man, this really isn’t working well” speaks volumes.

I can’t believe BG would call the people who essentially keep him in business, idiots. How rude and unprofessional.

best post ever. bring the heat.

Seriously? That was a pathetic post and screams of self importance. After re-reading the other guy’s post, seems to me he didn’t call bullshit on anything you said. I guess fame is going to your head?

So which one is Biggie and which one is Tupac. Stop the maddness its just phones, pda’s and computers. no need to hate crackbaby and no need to respond BG. Keep it cival and keep hitting us w/ that heat when it comes to exclusives on the mobile front.

Here is my advice for you.
Don’t post “opinion” on a device nobody has seen.
It will do everyone good.

regardless!!!
BG has been LESS wrong than the blackberry specifics sites… thats sad when a non BB site gets it right more often. And BG gives love to BB as much as Iphone and even lame sidekicks, phulease..Iphone fanboy? really? just because your a BB site and is a total tabboo to say anything good about the iphone it doesnt make everyone else an iphone fanboy, highschool stuff.

@boygenius
I agree that it speaks volumes when somebody in RIM says the phone sucks. And the facts are that a phone which is months away from shipping would probably have issues. So I think the essence of your message isn’t lost on more vulcan minds. That said, a less emotional post would probably have reached a broader audience I think. Not everybody can get past emotion.

I like when people hate on a little banter, this is awesome, I love when people go at it. Crackberry is a one-sided website that suckles at the teet of RIM, so they have no room to hate about iPhone related love.
