XM Radio comes to the iPhone
If you’ve been looking for a way to get your XM Radio fix while rockin’ your iPhone, we’ve got a bit of news that might make your day. Millard software has just released version .53 of uXM for the iPhone, which should bring most of the functionality of a standalone XM radio to your iPhone handset. For those of you with sharp eyes, you might notice that this is, in fact, the same company that brought us uSirius. They did a great job with their first iPhone satellite radio app, and this looks to be as good or better than their initial effort. An XM subscription is required, but if you’re not a satellite radio subscriber of some sort by now, we’re pretty sure there’s no hope left for you.

Or, can you save money by simply locating streaming radio sites with this (or any similar) website? I use it on my Treo 750 all the time.

I wonder if an iPhone can stream music in from a website? Maybe? My wife never listens to music on her iPhone.

This is not a big deal as Michael said. I know that the iphone is the most innovative product ever OMGZ, but this has been availabel to pocket pc and palm users for a while now.
Another streaming page.

@Michael Jones
Try playing those streaming sites in your car. Seriously, people that use this will most likely have XM radio and listen to it in their car or in their house. I don’t think there will be much, if any, who will purchase an XM radio subscription just to stream it on their iPhone. So no, streaming radio sites is not a replacement for this.
And yes, iPhone can stream music. There is at least one iPhone web app that does just that.

Umm XM is useless in a city with buildings over 2 stories tall like all of SF. Had to cancel my XM as soon as I tried to walk in the financial district with my Inno on. LAME.

Will this have the MLB channels available (not the actual games, but channel 175 MLB talk radio)? I know the XM online subscription does not include either…I’d get it just for the ability to stream that channel.

See, I always check this site out for my wife, who has an iPhone, but I might get an iPhone 3G for myself, when they come out. I would certainly want to be able to stream radio stations.
My only problem with the iPhone is the dinky keyboard - I always hit the wrong keys. I hope they allow a bigger keyboard on the iPhone 2.0 OS, for my thick fingers.

I noticed today that all but 2 of the articles on the front page are about Apple, the Iphone, or reference how something is trying to be the iphone. This is quickly becoming the last page I go to for news and scoops. Sad really, because it used to be the first.
I understand that the iphone is popular, but to basically abandon even talking about any other technology? Not good.

Stop your fraking whining. iPhone just seems to be the hot news right now. I’m sure it’ll die down alittle after release.

If you’re talking to me, I’m not sure how my post could be seen as “whining”, but whatever. I have absolutely no hate for Apple or the iphone. I myself don’t use their products, but they’re cool. It just gets tired when you are looking at a website for news, and all the articles are about one product. It’d be like ESPN only reporting on New England area teams. Oh…wait…bad example.

This app does actually work fairly well. Even over EDGE while stationary, there were no drops in music in the short time I was trying it. I have not yet tried this while moving in a car but may do so tonight (it’s my wife’s iPhone). I don’t expect it to work well at all while mobile, but it does have a decent buffer that may help.

@diggity, it is streaming the same content as you would access on your computer.

@jojo - Thanks for the commentary but actually I find this site quite informative - and often entertaining. So I will happily continue to frequent these pages. In fact, you might notice a frequent phrase on other sites (including the one you are plugging) is “The Boy Genius is reporting…” So even if you are not reading here, the editors of those other sites apparently are.

I streamed XM on my Windows Mobile 5 Sprint/HTC 6700/Apache and Treo 700wx a couple of years ago and it worked pretty good but I was disappointed that not all of the channels were included (no sports talk like espn, fox, etc…)
