I think people who wear t-shirts or polo shirts tucked into their jeans should never be in charge of product design. Clearly he has no taste or sense of style.

That’s not an iPhone on his belt.

I remember with the Segway came out, and a week later they said you can’t ride it on the NYC sidewalks.

That was a million units of sales out the window.

At Apple in particular, “Product Design” (PD) is a completely different department than “Industrial Design” (ID). PD melds ID’s design aesthetic (i.e. that which Jobs is quoted above as remarking about on the Segway) with engineering reqirements and realities. The ID team (Johnny Ive and Co.) still set the look and feel of the products.
