Lines already forming at NYC Apple store for iPhone 3G?
Yeah, the answer would appear to be “Yes!” Roughly 1 week before the new iPhone 3G becomes available, there seems to be a line forming in front of the 5th Avenue Apple Store. The collection of folks has formed with the specific intention of breaking the world record for longest time waiting in line. If you ask us, it’s not the most effective use of 7 days of your life, but if breaking obscure and meaningless records is your thing, you might want to jog down and latch on to this gravy train. Given the slightly diminished demand for the new iPhone relative to last year’s bum rush, coupled with Apple’s tendency to meet initial consumer demand for new products, we don’t think you’ll need to hit the line more than 30 minutes or so before the doors open to secure a handset on the 11th, but extreme measures never hurt a soul, right? Unless you’re an infant waiting in line because you parents forced you so you could break the above meaningless world record.

Why would you wait in line? There wont be any stock outs on the phone (atleast none reported thus far). Apple usually does a pretty good job of keeping enough inventory.
This people are just idiots!

Ok correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the iPhone wasn’t going on sale at an Apple Store. You have to buy it directly from the cell phone provider.
Hmmm.

Gotta give it to Apple. They’re the only one capable of having such impact on people. All these clones from the other carriers can’t create such buzz.
See you guys on the 11th, I’ll be in that line too.
p.s- Funny as heck!!! http://www.waitingforapples.com/

I live in NYC and as I recall there was plenty of inventory following the initial launch, so I expect there is no reason to think there will be any kind of shortage this time. This makes these people even dumber than those that waited the first time around.

What a waste of time.
I guess some people have nothing better to do.
I have to hand it to Apple.
They have a nice trained crew of zombies.
Wait all that time, and I can just walk right in a week later and pick up an iPhone without the hassle.

There’s only three ways you would try to break the world record of waiting in line…for an apple product, or any product…and it’s that you have absolutely way too much time on your hands, you are a moron apple zombie, or are a complete idiot.

Wait in line for a BlackBerry Bold? It’s never coming. It was a figment of our imagination.
@ everyone else
Curmudgeons. It’s dorky to be in line this early. I guess. But also festive. I suspect you don’t have to wait a week, as someone else wrote. Probably an hour will do it. But that’s not finally the point, is it?
I’m gonna get one. I don’t see a Bold or e71 on the horizon, do I? As Mozart’s wife said, this is a real man with real money. I’m gonna try it. If I don’t like it, I’ll pay the restocking fee and go back to my curve until December when the Bold comes out.
As for other phones being just as good or better - I’ve been checking them out. They feel like a pile of dog shit compared to the 1st gen iPhone. Honestly.
People loathe Apple so much. Well I don’t. Don’t worship Apple either. But if I like the iPhone as much as my iMac, I’ll get my fanboy membership.

Why would you even want an iPhone!? So many better phones around that do so much more for so much less money. I Agree with Ben, the marketing team behind the iPhone should write a book titled “How to trick people in buying a POS”

This would never happen with a WinMo phone for one simple reason:
Most WinMo users actually have to work.
I mean, I guess if you’re a jobless hippie and have nothing better to do…..why not?
