Specs for Telus’ HTC Touch Diamond

touchdiamondtelus

When we told you yesterday that Telus was getting ready to offer the HTC Touch Diamond to its Canadian customers, we weren’t completely clear on the specs of the device. Thankfully, HTC hit us up with an official spec sheet from Telus, which provides all the dirt you could ask for on the first North American iteration of this coveted device. The biggest change, of course, is that unlike previous Touch Diamonds, the Telus iteration will be sporting an EV-DO Rev. A radio. The Telus Touch Diamond has also received a modest boost in the memory department, with 256 MB ROM/ 256 MB RAM to the GSM version’s quoted 256 MB ROM/ 192 MB RAM. That’s about all we could notice, save for an extra 5 grams of weight and an included case, so if you’ve fallen in love with the GSM version of the handset, there’s nothing about this CDMA version that should convince you otherwise. GPS, Wi-Fi, Touch FLO 3D, and much more are all still in full effect. Anyone excited?

Did telus remove the GPS receiver inside the HTC touch Diamond? I can’t seem to locate the “quick gps” icon anywhere inside the phone files. Infact there only GPS I have access to is Telus’ very own Navigator. Can someone who has the phone aswell confirm if they too have this problem as well?

The location of the “Quick GPS” icon is suppossed to be in >>>START >>> PROGRAMS >>> QUICK GPS according to Youtube videos and CD the box came with.

There were a few available in Kitchener today.
However, when I phoned up Rogers to cancel, they offered me $15/month for their 6GB data plan on the iphone to stay with them. Not sure which to buy now.

I waited for the HTC touch Diamond for many reason but mainly because . . .
    1) It wasn’t a Rogers Product
    2) Near similiarities with the Iphone but in a smaller size!
    3) Beautiful Screen
    4) Its not a Rogers Product
    5) GPS
    6) $60 gets you unlimited email/instant messaging/browsing/voicemail 10/caller ID/250 any minutes/Unlimited Telus to Telus/Unlimited Incoming/Weekdays free after 5pm/Weekends Free
    7) Its not a Rogers Product (woops mentioned it twice)

The release date was Aug 14… but some stores did not get their stock until a few days later. Got mine yesterday.
One thing I noticed is that the back cover does not have the “diamond” effect which kind of contradicts the name of the device itself. However, the one that has TELUS logo on it is not glossy and hence no finger print problem. So, I am OK with it. So far so good… battery get a bit warm after length use.

i got mine on august the 16 the store told me they got the phone late on the aug 15,in edmonton alberta they have 2 left, and as far as i can see looks like telus removed the gps and has there own gps on it, but over all the phone is great for the price. you cant beat it, if you loose the phone its only like 450 not like the iphone were i heard if you loose or break it its like 1200 bucks too replace.

I’ve heard that Telus is delaying the release until the first week of September, but I’ve also heard that it’s being postponed until August 27. I don’t know how much clout I should give either claim.

I’ve spoken to numerous reps and they’ve provided absolutely no useful info, emailing their head office wasn’t much use either. Also, you can no longer order the device off the website, it just says “Coming Soon”.

I will call around tomorrow and see if I can find any. BTW, I’m in Ottawa.

I have the exact same problems with my diamond!!! freezes, drops calls, colored bars that say something about security and it freezes. Theres alot of features telus is lieing about when they sell this on their website, for example their website says you can picture message. You can only send pictures through email. The HTC diamond freezes even when scrolling from the home screen too fast. I had the P4000 and it was way better, I think Im going to switch back or just buy my plan out for something else.
It has some great features too and cool gimmicks but it doesnt help when you cant even turn it back on without removing the battery every tenth try.
Wait for version two or something is my advice!

This is NOT the same Diamond as the European version.

First, it’s thicker and heavier due to the more powerful battery.

It’s lacking the second camera for video calling.

It’s more curvy around the edges.

And it does not come with a dock.

I love the Touch Diamond, but I’m so disappointed. Where’s the FM radio? The second camera for video calling? What’s up with Telus Navigator - does my phone even HAVE GPS?

I have the HTC diamond phone and would never buy another one….stalls, slow, get stuck on screens, freezes……easy to call accidently to people. I just had my phone 6 weeks and I am waiting for a replacement as the first one just shut off one day and never came back on.

use google maps for GPS… and what is up with Telus Navigator???
be sure to close unused programs via task manager to keep the device from getting slow or freezing.
