T-Mobile flipping 3G switch in Chicago tomorrow?
We’ll keep this short, but we just got a tip from a pretty reliable source of ours that claims T-Mobile will be flipping the 3G power switch tomorrow in the Metropolitan Chicago area. 1700MHz goodness for all 7 of you that have 3G-enabled T-Mobile phones, possibly starting tomorrow.
Thanks, K.!

Afraid not Rockstar. Tmobile is using the 1700mhz and 2100mhz bands.
ATT is using 850 and 1900mhz for their 3g.
@ TrumanHW; I have to say I rarely lose SMS on T-Mobile. Now Sprint… hah… it took days for some of my SMS’s to come through, that’s if they ever did!
I’m in Chicago and i know alot of people that have Tmobile because its cheaper but i feel sorry for them. Verizon is light years ahead of them and other carriers.
live in ny got 3g for tmo compared it to att itz blazing faster than att way faster on 3555
no, it wont
BG, Can an unlocked phone with 2100 band utilize the TMO 3G…Also any word yet for Houston?
Hmm, I will have to look into this….I take the BNSF line also. I have not checked for faster speeds. I have noticed though, a decrease in EDGE coverage along with general cell coverage. I live by the 59 station and have noticed a significant drop in signal strength starting about a month or 2 ago.

Well I take the BNSF train into the city every day. About 4 or 5 weeks ago I noticed some areas around Hinsdale & I294 that were always working at EDGE speed had dropped back to G speeds. And within the last 2 weeks the EDGE has returned but I’ve been loading webpages much more quickly. I know EDGE isn’t the same as HSDPA, but either capacity was added or an upgrade to towers is helping older EDGE run just faster? I’ve noticed this same thing along other areas of the BNSF line closer to the city.”
Customers will not be able to roam with their T-Mobile 3G handsets on another carrier’s 3G network. These handsets use the 1700/2100 frequency band (for 3G) and is specific to T-Mobile. Customers can however roam on another carrier’s 1900 frequency band using GSM. Likewise, other carriers will not be able to roam on our 3G network with their carriers 3G handsets.
CANT ROAM ON ANOTHER 3G CARRIER, SRY
I experienced dropping of EDGE to G on 7/2/08 along Kennedy Expwy.
For about half an hour none of the web pages would load and #MIN# service failed in the same time frame.
Could these be indicators of something going on to flip the switch???
even if tmo launches its 3g network. None of our freakin phones would work on the new frequency…I have an N95-3 and sad to stay it would still be on the EDGE network…
I have SE K850i in Chicago and cant find any 3G signal yet. I know that T-Mobile have 1700/2100 UMTS and my phone works with 2100, so looks like T-mobile 3G is not working yet.
Chicago will be lit up on the 25th of September. Better late than never
