Rogers’ iPhone data plan petition

ruined iphone

So you’re Canadian. You want an iPhone. But, you’re totally unhappy with Rogers’ pricing for the iPhone data plan which pales in comparison to our good friends at AT&T, right? And you’re totally tired of taking it up the bum bum. Well, there’s something you can do. As of post time, the petition to get Rogers to change the newly announced, non-unlimited iPhone plans has had over 11,000 signatures. We wanted to give it some attention so in the end, hopefully all those signatures will make a difference and our Canadian Rogers subscribers can buy an iPhone without taking out a second mortgage on their home. Wait, do they have mortgages in Canada? What you think guys, you going to sign it or what?

Thanks, to everybody that sent this one in!

yeah blam the candidian.gov for not going after rogers monopolistic price gouging. you should not just go after the iphone rate ALL data rates on ALL devices other wise this sounds like apple fanboys griping which this post clearly is.

an this 3 year contract BS

major problem is robbers dosn’t have a rival carrier in the GSM market

no competition wich means robbers will contunue it’s monoplolistic practices

an your politician wil hva little or no effect

also they raised the rates an removed the unlited data plans caus they would hace baclash from the rest of their subscriber base for being unfair

also outsuide the state nobody cares much about the iphone

they have better stuff to choos from they don’t have a qualcom chip ban

Yeah, what Rogers is doing is crazy with their prices and policies. Since they gobbled up Fido, they don’t have competition. Telus is rumored to be going the GSM route, and there was rumor that either DT or T-Mobile USA wants to enter the Canadian market soon. It would either be good for them to merge with Telus just to get some 850/1900MHz spectrum since there is no more PCS or Cellular spectrum left to buy. Plus with Canada going to auction off AWS spectrum, that would be perfect for T-Mobile to enter Canada as long as Canada doesn’t put some crazy rules on them.

Gal, last time i checked Rogers was a private company. You really need to hink things through more clearly before typing (trying to type).

Well, if they change the iPhone plans, they will have to change the BlackBerry plans as well, because the plans are almost identical. So, this petition technically isn’t just about the iPhone, as BlackBerry users would certainly do the same thing if the iPhone plans got changed. You can’t have ’special treatment’ for just one device. They’d have to make the changes across the board.

    @Galvatron
I agree with you totally, but it is not only Rogers the Govt. should go after, the other two competitors (BELL and the EVIL EMPIRE TELUS) are the same way without having access to the IPHONE yet.
Since we got only three national carriers and two Systems (CDMA and GSM) up her there is not a lot the Fed’s are gong to do.
I’d rather see 5 carriers on GSM.

T-Miobile use to own a stake in FIDO (or its parent Microcell) before they sold out. FIDO’s infrastructure was only available in the big Cities at the time.

News flash people, this is a preview of things to come in the US. As smaller companies go out of business or are gobbled up by AT&T and Verizon, prices will start to rise as customers will have no where else to go. Verizon is almost as bad as Rogers and that’s with competition.

I’ve signed it, though I don’t think it will do any good. The only way for it to really work is just don’t buy the iPhone when it comes here. This will have to get them to think twice about any plan they have.
I know it’s a dream, but hell we’ve waited for a year for the phone already.

When has an online petition of this type actually worked, I cannot recall one that has. Still the only way to force Rogers to take heed is to NOT buy the iPhone. Then maybe his Jobness will put the smack down on Rogers for screwing the pooch.

Seriously what is with the 3 Year contract crap. the longest any contract should be is 1 YEAR, PERIOD. Just charge more phone upfront or be like the EU countries and pay for the phone and get NO contract.

I feel sorry for canadians, after looking at their calling plans, i have to say they are being abuse, i can’t believe they’re being charge for callers ID, what kind of bullshiet is that, i can’t even think of a 3rd world country that permits this, Europeans are getting the best out of the iphone i have to say, they’re getting more minutes than us in the US more SMS text, cheaper plans & on top of that incoming calls don’t count towards your minutes, iphone will be King in europe no doubt, almost forgot some providers are even giving them out for free there when it gets release

i doubt it. verizon and at&t might eat everybody but deutche telekom will NOT give up on t mobile usa. they may not be the biggest or most advanced phone company but tmobile usa is a huge cash cow for deutche telekom. HUGE

I signed it, I didn’t know how good my sidekick plan was until I saw this. $20 for unlimited texting, picture, and web is something I better be gratefull for because that compared to Rogers is nothing.

Don’t buy the iPhone period. The data pricing in Canada is BS, the fact that AT&T is not including a text plan in their already overpriced iPhone 3G plan is BS. Plus MUST activate in store. This second coming is gouging everyone. Skip it. DON’T BUY IT. Thats the only way it will teach the carriers.

Yeah maybe a boycot is in order. I don’t think complaining about the price will do anything. It’s basic suply and demand and the prices arent going to change unless we lower the demand. To many people are willing to spend their money on this new phone and roger knows it.
