Motorola Blaze for Verizon: the touch screen war hasn’t stopped yet

Ooooh! It’s purdy and shiny. Yes, yes, y’all — another Motorola scoop. This time, we’re switching gears from non-autofocusness to touch screens. There’s also very little doubt the Motorola Blaze isn’t coming to Big Red. Seeing as how, you know, it’s plastered all over the thing! Big Red being Verizon for all you slow pokes.

The handset takes design cues from a number of Motorola products. It’s odly a MING crossed with a PEBL crossed with a RAZR 2. Yeah. There’s a custom OS just for Verizon (did you really think they were done junking up their devices with that red theme?) and it works decently. It’s by no means a smartphone here. The mobile web browser is ok, and that’s being super nice. Texting or writing emails with the touch screen keyboard a la LG Voyager is bland, hard to use, and frustrating. Additionally, the phone has Haptic feedback but you have to press the darn touch screen so hard you feel like you’re going to break it. Specs we found? 2 megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A support, GPS, Bluetooth, MobileTV, and the regular standard feature set. Best part of the phone so far? While limited, you can use the device with the flip closed. Actually kind of cool. In a really not cool sort of way. Lastly, there’s no clue as to whether the much rumored visual voicemail is in here, but we’d guess that’s not going to make it in until the last second. Want some bad ass shots of said device? Jump!

Man, why do you guys rip on Moto so bad? The Samsung Glyde’s touchscreen was a piece of crap, and there was no ominous press report about that. Besides which, some of the problems could be worked out.

It’s quite alright. Another uninspired, low-spec touch screen might keep them in the game while they recover…

Although you say the touchscreen is hard to use, isn’t a bit pre-mature to be ripping Mot for this? You’re probably playing with an engineering prototype, I can see why they get mad about leaks when you can prejudge like this.

i’ve come to notice that recently BGR is only publishing insults for motorola rather than subjective articles. I wont say that the specs are outstanding but…
There are 2 kinds of phones
    1. US phones : where yesterday’s technology has a great share. all these handsets in the us markets enjoy 2mp cams. even the legendary iphone. i was shocked when i got my “shiny blackberry’s pearl” it can not send/receive bluetooth files or anything. it is a joke. and was treated with great respect here in BGR. so using yesterday’s technology. Moto is a leader with great phones.
    2. International phones: here we can notice that moto is way behind in specs (no doubt about that). but again. this phone was posted to US.

Is this the phone that Moto is banking on saving the company? Oh, my.

So, it’s a touchscreen phone that you have to flip open to use, and the flip doesn’t even fold flat against the phone… brilliant. Why didn’t someone else think of that one first?

Why doesn’t Moto just sell off the phone division already? Put that name into some responsible hands before it’s too late.

Rosario you mad stupid. you obiously dont have a clue about t-mobile phones, and dont know about technology at all, of course t-mobile has touch screen phones, the “wing” for example is better then this piece of nothin, is this the phone everybody was talking about that would saved Motorola; they should not make one more of this phone if they wanna stay with some money, this is not going to save them, i didn’t even hear about Wi-Fy on it, just a waste of money. :(

    MobileRoar says:

How can anybody here offer this type of criticism without seeing a price? What if Moto was trying to somehow hit the low-end with a touchscreen? Free with a 2 year contract. THEN would this be a bad phone?

Maybe for the gadget freaks here but I’m pretty sure it would fly off the shelves if it was FREE with 2 year…

Plus, this is probably an engineering version as somebody already mentioned.

Interesting approach on your failing market segment Moto.

This phone isn’t designed to impress people here. It is designed to offer low end customers a smart phone at an affordable price… something that hasn’t been done yet. Touch phones are typically targeted to the higher end…

Motorola is doing an incredibly smart thing here if they can market it properly. And, depending on the price…

Ya’ll need to search the old motorola articles for one that was titled MOTO FUKKED. That should clear up the BGR “beef”
