iPhone to get iTunes remote control app
Apple has just released a slew of iPhone/iTunes-related updates, and amidst the madness are a couple of pretty exciting bits of info. Most significantly, it looks like Apple is getting ready to provide iPhone and/or iPod Touch owners with a free iTunes remote control application. Very few details were revealed, but there’s a clear reference to the new application in the developer notes for the new build of iTunes 7.7 that was seeded today. We’re guessing there will be some sort of ad-hoc network established between the iPhone and computer, either via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and hopefully we can expect cool features like seeing track names, playlists, and more, instead of just the basic play / pause /fast forward / rewind controls.

I’d hope that it’s over Bluetooth, since Wi-Fi is pretty power hungry.

Does the current AirTunes spec do anything but stream audio? Could it also send artwork and other info? So this could be not just a remote control, but also tuned into your AirTunes stream (+ plugged into your stereo in another room?).
I would be skeptical they’d do a remote over bluetooth since the effective range of BT is something like 10-30 feet, at most. Testing the limits of remote control range doesn’t make a very enjoyable user experience.

I have been using Touchpad Pro on my G4 for some time now, and it’s great. I would still really like to see a landscape keyboard option! Please!

Salling Clicker for the iPhone. I hope it’s over wifi. Bluetooth range is so limited.
