Samsung Instinct Selling Like Hotcakes; Relatively Speaking

While sales figures were wisely omitted from Sprint’s press release, it has announced today that the Samsung Instinct is the fastest-selling EVDO-equipped handset Sprint has ever offered. Apparently the Instinct is so desirable in fact, that many Sprint locations have run out of stock. All things considered it is a nice handset supporting just about every service Sprint has to offer. The nice big touchscreen, and familiar form factor don’t hurt either. John Garcia, President of Sprint’s Wireless Division had this to say:

“We had high expectations going into the launch so our initial order to Samsung was the largest for any Sprint EVDO handset to date. The strong early response tells us that wireless customers recognize Instinct as a highly-innovative and convenient touch-screen device combined with the fast speeds available on the largest national mobile broadband network. In the first few days of availability, many Instinct devices were purchased by existing customers upgrading their wireless device – we thank our customers for their endorsement of this device, our Simply Everything pricing plan and our company.”

So what exactly do the Instinct’s record sales tell us? People bound to Sprint wish they could get an iPhone.

Oh Apple, you’ve done it again! Next thing you know we’ll find out that Apple has figured out a way to copy text from one place and paste it to another. Ok, that’s just crazy talk.”

    Not good enough I guess?

Hey don’t hate, congratulate. Contrary to what you all want to believe, everyone does not want the iPhone. And it’s not all about the price either. So don’t trip ’cause the phone you paid first & last month’s rent for is being blown away by the Instinct. It appears some are hyping the iPhone to justify the choice they made. And BGR, you are the chief hater. Later witchu!

Thank you Smells Fishy, some people just don’t get it.

Some people come here for some news, and yes entertainment.
But day in and day out of iPhone comparisons in every other post, is just getting to me ( and apparently some other people here as well)
Lets face it even the best joke will get old quick if it gets repeated every other sentence.

Just some friendly advice, no hate.. truly.
What really sucks is I love(d) coming here.

Despite my usual skepticisim of the touchscreen crop, I can’t deny that samsung has gotten a lot better with their proprietary interfaces. This thing looks like a regular 266 mhz ARM based feature phone to me, so it begs to be flashed with android. I can’t wait until sammie gets a stock version (hopefully on sprint) with the platform preloaded. However, it shouldn’t be too hard, someone already took the time to get it on a TyTn, so anything’s possible, especially with the more open dev architectures they use to program their own UIs these days. Just a thought though…

lol bgr is wild… i’m really feeling the instinct, every new phone now is biting that design… apple is a beast with design so i’m not even mad… what this should tell APPLE is that they need to release the iphone to other companies(people are STILL buying razrs thanks to choice so its prolly going to be everywhere once obama leaves office :D )… i’m loving my simply unlimited plan which screams iphone but will ultimately bless my instinct :tu

sprint peeps just read the comments and keep it moving we aren’t the only ones releasing iphonys this year(and to years to come)

U know…I have read all these blogs, and i really do not understand why there is so much bashing of Sprint. Yes they are the 3rd largest carrier…but why? It isn’t because of bad service, or poor call reception…Its because they have failed to capitalize on what consumers want–COOL GADGETS!! ATT recognized this early on, so did verizon. Sprint has to make up ground…I dont want an iPhone…I dont want ATT. I had verizon…their customer service was 100x worse than Sprint. Sprint has been fantastic for CS…

I bought the Instinct. I love this phone. Thats what it is…a phone. Not an Ipod with phone abilities. The keys are bigger than i had on my Treo’s or Centro…

Sprint gives 30 days to return the phone. If you keep it 24 to 48 hours, did you really give it a fair chance. It is something completely new to most people. I have had it since day one. I love this phone. It has so many options and my simply everything plan makes it so I can use all of sprints services. The GPS is amazing, and the speech to action is incredible. I can speak my words to a text message. I can use real handwriting instead of typing to create messages…you cant do that with an iphone. the live search is live GPS, no prerecorded locations like a garmin or tomtom….And it pulls the direction and checks traffic for you…all included in the plan…I could leave sprint tomorrow, but why? the instinct does more than even the current 3G iPhone. I dont need wifi..i need to be connected when i am away from the laptop…if I wanted to have bigger keys, id use my laptop..
The guy writing this blog probably does not buy his phones himself–it is probably a company phone he is given to use…heplays with an iphone or instinct for a few minutes and then writes a review..actual owners of the products are the judges…but dont trust what you read–use them for yourself…for more than 20 minutes….I have many clients that told me they would not give up their iphones for an instinct. Once they saw mine, they compared the 2, and went to sprint and switched. The data network for sprint blows away anything ATT offers…wider coverage and faster speeds…why would i want ATT over Sprint? In AZ where I live, ATT has horrible coverage. Sprint includes all of their services for $99/mo. ATT makes you pay for the phone service, the data, and eveything else seperately. Show me why i would want them…….

I too had the problem with hitting the collapse button. Easy fix. Instead of using the back space button use the arrow key located on the bottom of the phone(bottom right if in landscape mode:). It serves the same purpose when in text mode. I find it to be a ton easier to use. They do need to relocate the back space key or just get rid of it all together since you don’t really need it if you use the back page arrow instead.
Another problem I have found was this. When you hit done sometimes it doesn’t go to the send screen right away so I hit it again. But by this time the send screen pops up and low and behold what is occupying the same spot on the touch screen as the done button? The good ol Cancel button. And of course the next screen that pops up has 2 more buttons marked yes or no. Well not reading the rest of the box can cause a problem. Because when I hit cancel by accident and the yes and no buttons come up my first instinct(oh the irony) was to hit NO. I don’t want to cancel so NO. Oops! My message that I just spent 3 minutes typing because I had the phone for 5 hours is gone. What?!? So I make a test text message up. Hit cancel and read the full message on the NO YES box. It says, “Save as draft?” Ok..I’m the idiot. Here’s my gripe. It’s called the “INSTINCT”. My “INSTINCT” if I accidentally hit a button that says “Cancel” is to hit “NO”. And how convenient? It’s located right above where the cancel button was. First off. Switch the Cancel and Send buttons around. What idiot put the cancel button in the place where the done button was. Part 2 of that is what moron puts “Cancel” before “Send” Shouldn’t the send button be on the left side anyways? Simple little changes will make this phone 10 better than what it already is…a great phone.
Now to the scrolling menus. Now I’ve adjusted my sensitivity levels, yet I still seem to chose things when I didn’t want to. Then when you go back it defaults back to the beginning. It took me 5 minutes to scroll to song number 124 on my song list because of this problem. Here is my solution. When in scrolling mode, who on this planet needs the full screen to scroll? When in scroll mode, particularly in the all songs list, shut down the scrolling to the left and the right. Put the scrolling ability right down the middle. Deactivate the select option down the middle and put it to the left since the song options buttons are on the right. I mean my natural instinct when I scroll anyways is to slide my finger right down the middle of the screen. By doing this, no more accidental selecting, faster scrolling…it just makes sense. It’s not like it would take that much more programing. Now I know this is the first of many more to come, but if you would’ve given me a test model, I could have made all these minor improvement suggestions and the million of us that have bought one of these things, would be tons happier and less gripes.
