Watch out when you sign up - don’t enter your number as +12125551212, or it will add an additional “1″, making your number 1+12125551212.
You can’t change your number and won’t receive the SMS with download instructions.

How does this product work? Does your device use regular phone minutes and dial into a system or is it strictly data usage?

You don’t have to hand over your cc info…? I was able to sign up and use the credit w/o any cc details being entered.

The program dials a phone number, then dials the long distance number you want to call.
Anybody outside of the US: This service currently only works inside the US. I am from Canada and signed up but was given a number in the 347 area code, which would mean that I would incur a long distance charge every time I used the service - not ideal!
I have told them that they need to update their website to make it very clear that this is currently only viable for US citizens.

For this beta test, the MGT application can only dial out from the US. We are adjusting the website to reflect this fact and hopefully avoid any further confusion. thanks for the post!

I received no sms with the application link. Send an email to cust support, which was answered in a few minutes with the link to the application. They said they resent the sms, which has still not arrived.
In any case, I downloaded from the support’s email link and installed. Works like this–you dial an international number, program kills the call, calls the US number for the service, and adds your dialed number after that, inserting suitable pauses and # at the end. Similar to some other phonecard applications.
Works fine for the couple of phone calls I tried.

The BETA is well worth the cost to us! We will have a change for tomorrow where not only will we use the SMS we will include the download link in our WELCOME email. We are not sure why some are not getting the link, but using the email as a back up should take care of this short term problem.

And if someone calls me on my MyGlobalTalk number and I answer it when I am overseas am I paying my normal T-Mobile roaming fee in addition to the MyGlobalTalk fee?

The service is of if you are IN the USA calling OUT to an international number. YES you will be using plan minutes but the International call will be far less then using the cell phone carrier and in most cases far less then using a calling card.
There are exceptions t burning up cell plan minutes, such as if you have a “Fave” type plan you could make one of your faves your new myglobaltalk number.

I’ll guess it’s the same - I’ll pay T-Mobile international roaming plus your fee. Cheaper if someone just calls my regular number then, right? Your website seems to say there is some kind of advantage to having people call my MyGlobalTalk number. Can you explain why your website encourages this.

This is crap. It doesnt work. I tried it (College grad) My mom tried it. (Masters Degree) and my nephew tryed it (Highschooler) It doesnt work at all. Dont waste your time

Seems like a scam from wireless carriers within the USA to trick people into thinking their getting an international call for free when really it ends up on your cell phone bill. I wonder how much BG got paid for this.

My experience so far…..
Signed up yesterday, still waiting for text message on how to install app on my 8310.
Email customer service approx 24 hours ago about it….no response.

Our regular business hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. EST. if anyone has not gotten the link you can go to http://Blog.MyGlobalTalk.com and use that download link from your Blackberry.
if you have t-mobile or another provider that allows a “fave” type calling plan you can add your MGT number as a “fave” and your call will be free through your provider.
please remember that only Blackberry devices with an OS of v.4.2.1 or higher are currently supported. if your BB does not have v.4.2.1 it will not work on your phone.

wow…what a neat and needed product…i had no trouble signing up and the clarity was perfect when i called mexico….this appears to be “a product of the year ” and i can see millions signing up and using this as a cheaper alternative …..i see their stock is public……i think ill buy some shares ….looks like a home run….

I downloaded it last night. I’m in US and call canada about 3 hrs a day. But the app didn’t work untill i changed the settings to “use for US long distance” Then it worked like a charm. But if i keep it on that setting, all my free calls in US will be routed that way too.
