Alltel announces Wi-Fi partnership with Boingo
If you’re an Verizon Alltel customer with a longing for free Wi-Fi, your life just got a bit easier. The carrier has announced a partnership with Wireless Internet provider Alltel to bring Boingo Hotspot access to wireless customers. For $69.98/month Alltel customers can experience all-they-can-eat data on their wireless handsets in addition to unlimited Boingo Hotspot browsing by subscribing to the new Internet Anywhere Bundle. Sure, it’s not the cheapest solution in the world, but integrated services are all the rage these days, so you can’t blame ‘em for throwing their hat into the ring. The service is available immediately, so anyone looking to take advantage should hit the jump with the quickness.

If anyone remembers (or even cares) this is what Helio did with their wireless broadband offering but they charged $ 79.99 per month.
I’m sure T-Mobile, once they rollout and start selling aircards and USB modems will do the same with their huge existing WiFi footprint.
Wow, Being a T-mobile fanboy, I hate to correct anyone who is blasting the compition but I will.
T-mobile customers who are subscibed to the total internet package for 19.99 will not only be able to get unlimited data on the phone aswell as being able to use phone as tethered modem but will also be granted a free hotspots account that they can sign into using any wifi device including their the phones and personal laptops at any Tmobile hotspots location.
None of the data plans for the blackberry includes a free hotspot account but its not needed be be able to get wifi access on the blackberry. All UMA phones from the basic nokia to the blackberries can access UMA at any T-mobile hotspot location. To be able to use wifi on a blackberry all is needed is that the customer needs to be subscribed to one of blackberry data plans. Now if you want to get unlimited hotspot access let’s say on your laptop and you don’t want or need data for your phone or are using a Blackberry Tmobile has a Hotspot only addon for 19.99.
Now for Danny’s comment about air cards Tmobile has been selling wifi/edge cards for years but there not a big seller. Most laptops these days come with build in wifi standard and for about the same price as the aircard a customer can get new pda and use it as a usb modem.
uh oh. alltel is stepping into tmobile territory. tmo may be pathetic when it come to 3G but wifi & uma is where they reign supreme
Boy I could use a new phone…

I might be wrong but something about that doesn’t make any sense to me
