BlackBerry Bold delayed on AT&T until at least mid-August!

We know what you’re thinking… but this is for reals! We’ve just confirmed this now with two high-level sources: the Bold is actually delayed until August on AT&T. It seems like AT&T and RIM are still having software issues with battery life and overheating. It has not been certified by AT&T yet. This new information goes against our previous intel and thoughts, but it really looks like everyone on AT&T either needs to wait it out, get a Bold from Canada, or think impure thoughts. What you thinkin’? RIM = FAIL? Yeah, us too.

This is definitely a strategic move by AT&T to insure that both the iPhone and the BOLD have a succesfull launch. Since AT&T is paying a big chunk of the cost of the iPhone for the consumer, they need the iPhone to go off the shelf and sell like “hot cakes,” as my dad used to say.
This way, the units are not initially competing agains one another. In my opinion, the BOLD will not launch before the 30day return policy has expired on the iPhone.
There may have been some legit problems with the overheating of the BOLD, but trust me, those type of issues would have been identified long ago, not a few weeks before a scheduled launch.
My two cents…
Its pretty clear that if Rogers & Vodafone launch on time which appears to be end of July then its an AT&T just dragging it out.
BTS time is huge and where do they want those sales to be, IPHONES, pretty simple.
Also why do people keep saying $199 for the iPhone 3G, its $199 = 8GB and $299 = 16GB and we ALL know more 16GB version will be sold than 8GB. So the real price is $299 or average of $249.
@ BOB, did you get your name from bob’ing steve jobs’ knob?
seems like you’re in bed with apple, and are clueless to the fact that iphone, past or present will never conquer more then the amateur mobile market share. whata joke.. apple fan boyism has no place on this site
I fully agree Tee…. The delay would be clearly to maximize the numbers of the iphone. Like I said before, you cant have 2 powerhouse devices release within the same company, a week or 2 apart. Thats just poor business practices.
Att is aparently making alot more money off of the iphone and is not going to allow anything to hamper their bottom line.
what do u mean 30 day return policy
how do u know if NOONE else knows …
stop feeding out info that u don’t know or can’t vaildate
I believe that the issue is with Blackberry . Their QC has been off lately and how many outages have they had this year?
Secondly, this thing looks just like my Motorola Q9 Global without the track ball. Just sold my iPhone so it’s my daily driver till the 11th.
Say what you will about Apple but at least they are delivering THEIR device on schedule.

The overheating must be due to that power hungry cut-and-paste feature of the Bold. Apple was smart enough not to include it in the iPhone.
LOL this comment was the best, shitty ass iPhone
crazy legs: You’re a fool. Your mother should have swa…. nevermind, troll.
Guess Who: You are also a fool thinking Apple will never have smartphone market share. At the end of 2007 (6 mo. of existence) Apple had 28% to RIMMS (6+ yrs of existence) 41%. The tide has turned, close your eyes BB fanboys, say goodnight.
Sanity Said: I guess RIMM was in the right when they decided to include: A real web browser, a real media player, a real hard drive, a real touchscreen, etc etc etc. My favorite part of the new BB promo commercial, is when they pop out the SD card out of the side! HAHAHA, where is the hard drive? SD card?!? You’ve got to be kidding me. Nice fireworks display, btw. Watching any sort of media on that thing has got to be a blast!
why is bob still talking?
All you have to do is watch the iphone keynote here:

I’ve been using blackberry’s for years, the iphone is just simply better…the browser is amazing, and the new apps are SICK!! I will be paying my tmobile termination fee and be in line first thing in the morning on the 11th:)
Overheating? Battery life? Why? Because it’s 3G? VZW has been selling 3G BBs for years without these problems. And if you think AT&Ts quality control is on par with VZW’s, you’re nuts. Is the Bold that much more advanced of a phone that would warrant all these issues?
Ryan: The BB fanboys should take your advice, however they’re lost in BB fandom. I’ve also used blackberry’s and Treo’s for years as I work on mobile application development, however when the iPhone1 came out, the tide definitely started to turn. iPhone3g may not be the end for BB, but by the end of 2008, it will have nearly 40-50% of the smart phone market share, which is scaring the crap out of BB as its been in existence for so many more years.
To the idiot who said in another post the BlackBerry application development is better than Apple’s, well, just because they say they are devoting “150Mil” to Apples 100Mil, really doesn’t mean a thing. Look at Apple’s applications and look at BBs, wait. Where are BBs? What companies have agreed to develop for BB? Haha, c’mon fanboys, just admit its game over.
Is this technologically possible?? Vodafone and Rogers getting “their” Bold’s on time, while AT&T is seemingly doing what it did with the Palm Treo 750.
Treo 750v release date on Vodafone: 9/12/06
Treo 750 release date on AT&T: 1/8/07
At first, I was mad at Palm, but it looks like AT&T is the “perp” here, not RIM, as far as the Bold is cocerned.
I agree with one poster that it might be purely a business move, which, as a businessman, I can understand. I just wonder how it will benefit AT&T to basically give the iPhone plenty of room and TIME until everyone has their iPhone. When at capacity, it looks like the Bold will be released. Although, in case of the Treo 750, there was no iPhone “in the way”, so I ask again, both Rogers, and worldwide giant Vodafone is “graciously” accepting the Bold from RIM, but AT&T is not for technical reasons??
Sounds fishy.
Battery issues? That doesn’t even make any sense. How is Rogers supposedly launching it in July and AT&T is having battery issues. Both are GSM networks, so I’m assuming the battery is the same on both. So, Roger’s would either have to have lower standards, or AT&T is BS’ing. I’m leaning on the latter. Steve made a call and said don’t release the Bold in July and AT&T had no choice but to agree.
So, unless the Bold is delayed on Rogers as well, I’m gonna call BS on this reason.
bob needs a tissue- plz someone hand it to him..
not because hes a whiny B!tch- but because hes gonna cry when the iphone 3g dissapoints him
One thing to consider with Rogers and AT&T, unless you actually work for a mobile phone maker, you won’t actually know how long it takes each of them to carry out their technical acceptance for a new product nor how heavily booked their labs are for that process.
You could have the situation where both of them still need improvements in the software on the Bold before they are ready to approve it for sale, but Rogers has a bit more flexibility to accomodate testing of that new software, whereas AT&T are just as happy to make RIM wait their turn to be retested since they have a 3g iphone to launch in the meantime.
This is fine by me. I actually feel confident in RIM for delaying the phone while they make sure it lives up to their standards. iPhone release be damned, this is more important.
guess WHO: The truth is, you are the one that is upset today as your prized ::cough cough:: delayed possession won’t be available until August or mid September. You are just bashing the iPhone because it is receiving all the desired hype which you dream about the BB receiving every night you lay yourself to sleep. You are now coming to grips with the fact that BB is greatly inferior to iPhone1 and now iphone3g. You need a hug troll.
If you haven’t used an iPhone, you can’t comment on it versus the Blackberry. Everyone has needed coporate push mail has used a blackberry and those that haven’t probably won’t be happy with it when they do. The user experiance of the iPhone is just so much better than WM and RIM. If they are equal feature wise, and there is more and cheaper 3rd party apps for the iPhone, it will hurt RIM big time.
RIM’s third party apps are expensive and look like the crappy java apps you download on a Razor. There are some good apps for RIM but they cost a small fortune. I have always like Blackberry’s but I also liked my Dodge until I bought my Lexus….
Well put, evilhomer. As I stated in an earlier post, I’ve been using Treos and Blackberries for years and have been using the iphone since day 1. The iphone1 didn’t put RIM out out business, however iphone3g coupled with the SDK and catalog of applications may do just that, in a matter of years. But hey… what do I know, Blackberry’s fanboys are now pointing to its “qwerty keyboard” as its saving grace. Ah, a technology 10 years old is all they have left. July 11th whosaid, we’ll see you in line, you closet apple consumer you.
Oh please bob. Maybe you should drop the $299 on a good hooker so you could laid. Maybe then you wouldn’t be such a blubbering idiot. Shouldn’t you be wasting your time developing a Ms PacMan application for your beloved iTerd?
Or converting your sausage porn to the proper format so you can view it on your iTerd in your 4×4 cube?
iTERD! Wow, you two are comic geniuses, RIP George Carlin, rolling in his grave. The blackberry delay has you two so very upset it seems. 4X4 cube? Ha, son how is your associates degree in marketing helping you move out of your parents residence?
