BlackBerry Bold delayed on AT&T until at least mid-August!

We know what you’re thinking… but this is for reals! We’ve just confirmed this now with two high-level sources: the Bold is actually delayed until August on AT&T. It seems like AT&T and RIM are still having software issues with battery life and overheating. It has not been certified by AT&T yet. This new information goes against our previous intel and thoughts, but it really looks like everyone on AT&T either needs to wait it out, get a Bold from Canada, or think impure thoughts. What you thinkin’? RIM = FAIL? Yeah, us too.

Will get the iPhone and the Bold.
Actually, it is will be better for the sales point of view. Let the iPhone get the big Hurrah in the summer, come august, Bold will be launched. By that time the hype on the iPhone will be slowed down.

Don’t wanna get into a race with the iPhone. Both devices have different markets. Otherwise, the media will give the BB a slightly negative review compared on sales (sold of the shelves at ATT) stores. Unnecessary negative feedback.

Let the iPhone have it’s short run glory in July.

This will force RIM/ATT to confirm the delay rumor or announce a release date to fend off any defections to iPhone.

Wonder how many Iphones will be bought and returned within the return period as folks wait for the BOLD. And I also wonder if they will reduce the number sold by the returns :-)

anoy - who are your sources? Do you work in product development at RIM or AT&T? Unless you do, I’d go with BGR who rarely misses these things.

Is there a problem with the Bold or is this iPhone related? I know RIM won’t like it, but it might be best for them to wait anyway, since they could get lost in the iPhone hype. Now they can launch and be center-stage.

Does this push back the release dates for the other carriers, or will AT&T have a shorter exclusive period to sell the Bold?

    i wouldn’t consider it delayed.

unless you consider your made-up launch dates as a reality in the business.

no one manages to BGR’s “intel” dude.

I am wondering if this is a ploy by At&T rather than a problem with the product.

If it is a problem why would Rogers be releaseing it up in Canada?

Will this impact T-Mobile from releaseing this product before AT&T?

Is T-Mobile dependant upon the release date of AT&T??

What is expected that RIM will do to the bold between now and August, so as to meet the standards required bt AT&T?

Are we talking about some sort of hardware redesign (I wouldn’t have thought so at this late stage), or just a firmware update, which will presumably be made available to all users in due course anyway.

    Thoughts anyone?

Well lets be honest, would it really be wise of att to release the bold and the iphone within the same time period? Wouldnt that hurt apples/att’s precious sales?

It just has never made sense that att would release 2 powerhouse phones back to back.

I fully understand that the bold and iphone are 2 diffrent markets (sorta) but anyone looking for the latest and greatest phone is going to get whatever releases first.

But i guess this does give me the ability to love or hate the iphone before the bold drops.

FU RIM, its been over a year since you released a diffrent model, LAME.

My money is on “AT&T jerking us around”. The proof will be the Rogers launch. If Rogers launches first, and the phone is fine, AT&T is behind the “delay”. If Rogers’ launch suddenly slips to August, or they ship a hot phone with short battery life, then I’ll have to flip flop on this issue.

Possible reasons for AT&T’s delay? 1) Engineering is having issues getting the Bold stable on 3G. I was involved with the launch of the 5810 and can assure you that the BlackBerry is unique from all other phones (iPhone and WinMo included) in how it uses the carrier’s network. 2) The delay would keep the focus on the iPhone. 3) Both 1 and 2.

By the way, a product without a ship date is not considered delayed. While we all know which rumors to believe, hope for and dismiss, the ship date is the day I get it in my hand, no sooner.

Hey Blackberry fan boys… your little Bold is delayed until mid-august, so much for today as the release date! That’s great marketing RIMM, say it may be announced on the 26th, then on the 26th announce it won’t be out until MID AUGUST! That is going to do wonders for BB stock price. iPhone 3G FTW!

@nimbus - iPhone already does own BB. It’s remarkable how much of the smart phone market share Apple has taken in one year of existence. Now, with this BB (blackberry blunder) coupled with iPhone 3G domination, it’s lights out blackberry.
